hi

is it possible that a person may experience some 'puberty' symptoms when one is way above the pubescent stage? for example, my male friend who is 23 yrs old, he has i guess have gone through puberty, but like the usual male puberty enduced growth, he didn't develop body and facial hair. but now he recently confided that hair growth has sprouted, such as in his pits, legs and more facial hair. he always thought he was just naturally hairless. he's also short (5'4") compared to the rest of his family, and confided that he is small in the downtown department like 4" and no more that 3.5-4" in circ. right now he is convinced that puberty has gotten a second wind and is again making an entrance. and he is getting his hopes up. so is this just a wishful thinking or puberty can really happen or be dragged that long especially for a 23 yr old guy?

He should find a doctor that specializes in endocrinology. The doc will probably schedule a series of hormone blood tests & test for Klinefelters Syndrome.

Extreme low Testosterone levels can cause this problem. There are Testo supplements available by prescript that will help correct the problems.

He probably also has low muscle mass & problems with erections. There are many other side effects low testosterone can cause.

It is certainly possible to have delayed onset of puberty and/or secondary sex characteristics (body hair, deep voice, facial hair, etc.) at that age. It is very rare though. He should have seen a doctor by 16 if he had not had any signs of puberty at that point. I think its the pituitary gland in the brain that triggers the start of puberty, and sometimes its timing can be off and needs to be kick started so to speak with hormone treatment. It could be a sign of other problems though including low testosterone, a brain tumor, or a whole bunch of other issues.

An endocrinologist would be a good place to start to be evaulated. He first needs to check that all of his hormone balances are in check. Then he needs to be evaluated by a doctor to determine if he's sexually developed enough for his age. If there is a hormone problem, the doctors need to find out whats causing it.
