asdfasdfasdf,
Testicular cancer almost always presents with a pea-sized lump. If your testes are just sore, that's probably not testicular cancer.
It's really common for guys your age to become so nervous about testicular cancer that they start examining their balls a LOT. This really isn't necessary. Cancer grows slowly; just make sure that you feel around down there every month or two.
You're right, testicular cancer is pretty rare. Although there has been an increase in the number of cases, it doesn't happen often.
There are certain viruses that cause testicular swelling and pain. If you had the flu-like symptoms and your balls hurt, it was probably one of those viruses. As long as you're feeling better now, I wouldn't worry.
I'm really sorry that you don't have a health care provider who you trust... that must be pretty scary. If you're 18 or older, you can go to a free clinic to see someone. If you're not 18, most states allow you to seek treatment for reproductive health concerns without your parents' consent; if you have the guts to make the phone call, try calling the health department.
I work in a free clinic one night per week and I often see teenage guys who are worried about testicular cancer. It's totally normal to be concerned.
Take care,
Mats. (Nurse)
