Growing a full beard? - Men's Health Message Board

Hi everyone, I have a question about facial hair. I'm 27 and have what I'd consider regular hair growth in parts of my face and little to none in others -- it can be patchy. For instance, under my chin there's almost no growth, even after 2-3 days without shaving. Similarly, on my chin itself hair grows normally on both "knobs" but not in the middle. Other parts, though, on my neck and sides of my face, are normal. Does anyone else have growth like this and is there anything I can do to induce more uniform growth?

I don't have that problem but a buddy of mine does. When he grew a beard it grew in patches so he shaved it off. Some of us have an even beard and others don't. If I were you I wouldn't have a beard if it's not going to look the way you want it to. I don't think anything can be done to change it.

I have a lot of facial hair. If I dont shave I look like the Door's Jim Morrison in his bearded days.

Nevertheless, the 'patchy' look is very hip. Love it and live with it. Keanu Reeves has the 'patchy' look and he attemped a beard. It looked great.

a patchy beard is perfectly normal on some people. I'm sure that during the course of evolution, the fullness of the beard was not a really high priority. Many of the lucky ones were able to reproduce before the age when a beard fully comes in, before a female could tell if it was patchy or not. I was talking with my dad years ago, about what a moth-eaten beard I inherited from him. He said, "what are you talking about, I don't have those hollow spots", and took my finger, and rubbed it around his face. Sure enough, he had beard where I had none. Guess I got it from the Scottish side, along with the streaks of red in it.

hI sorry I cannot be of some help, I am 48 and i have a very full beard, which I keep very neatly trimmed. Personally it it was patchy I wouldn't keep it, (personly I think Keanu and Tom cruise look foolish with their scruffy beard, but that is onlymy opinion. . I have worn it on and off, mostly on since I was about 16.
