It's pretty normal as long as it's not interfering with school or your social life. If you are staying home to masturbate instead of going out with friends, then I would say that was bad. But if you are doing it last thing before bed or something like that then it's a good way to practice for partner sex and relieve tension.

Some guys feel guilty after and that is pretty normal too. Just remember all guys masturbate because it's very hard not to, just natures way of making sure you like sex alot.

Thanks Orion! No it is not interfering with my school work or social life. I would never let that happen.I just wanted to make sure it can't hurt me physically. B/c my friend told me that doing it too much is bad. He said that it was on the Sex Talk live with Sue Johanson on the Oxygen channel. And she said if you do do it then you should do it like once every few days b/c it depletes the sperm cells??? I thought we had thousands of those.

Your friend, and Sue Johanson, are wrong! You don't believe everything you see on television, do you? You can't injure or harm yourself from ejaculating too much. Your body will tell you when its had enough by making you tired or just a lack of interest in masturbating or sex temporariliy. Again, temporarily - sometimes this will only last a few hours and your horny again.

Thousands?? Try hundreds of MILLIONS! An average ejaculation has about 250 million to 400 million sperm cells in it! Pretty amazing huh?

The testicles are constantly producing sperm cells from puberty on, and its a fairly constant production rate of about 300 million a day. That averages out to 13 million per hour, 208 thousand per minute, or 3,472 per second!

So it doesn't matter if you deplete your sperm cells from many ejaculations, because within one day, you'll be at full sperm count again. And your testicles and your body doesn't care if you ejaculate 20 times a day or never - it will always produce the same 300 million or so per day, whether you use them or not. Excess sperm that doesn't get ejaculated usually gets reabsorbed by the body.

Also note that sperm production takes about 74-90 days, because they need time to mature inside the body. So the sperm you are ejaculating today are already about 3 months old. Once the sperm are mature and ready to go, they can be stored inside the body for about 3 weeks before they die.

But again, production is constant. So even if your ejaculated like crazy and depleted every last sperm cell you had, there will be 300 million more on the way that will be maturing and ready to go within the next 24 hours. Or 3,472 in the next second that are ready!

So don't worry about it - ejaculate as often as you like and enjoy the ride.

yeah, its good times. i dunno, i can go a week without doing it, but sometimes, i masterbate like 5 or 6 times a day, to the point theres nothing really left. but, within a few days, theres more, lol. the only problem i see is not the ejaculating part, its the part that if you masterbate like crazy every day, you might start to get a little raw. good luck, have fun.

Actually Sue is pretty fun to watch and she is very knowledgeable, so I think your friend misunderstood what Sue said. Guys have tens of millions of sperm and hundreds of thousands are produced every hour, 24 hours a day. So you have no worry about running out. In fact an endocrinologist told me that it was very important to ejaculate to sweep away the old sperm and fluids and replace them with new. There is some evidence that frequent masturbation is also good for the prostate gland.

Your friend heard only part of what Sue was talking about. It had to do with sperm count levels, and holding back a few days would give a higher count.

Good question, but I don't have any scientific answer for it. I think long term, it doesn't really matter if you ejaculate a lot or not at all in terms of your hormone levels and building muscle, etc. Short term, there can be some wild hormone fluctuations before, during, and after ejaculation.

Some people theorize that its bad to ejaculate before a big workout because you will feel drained after you ejaculate. I've experimented with that theory, and found that yes, I am drained for about 5 minutes after ejaculation and my energy levek is down temporarily. But it comes back quick, and I find it doesn't matter if I just ejaculated or not once I start working out - my energy level is about the same.

I have gone long periods of time without ejaculating - like a month or more. During these prolonged times of not ejaculating, my horniness level is VERY high nearly all the time, and seems to increase with time. By three weeks of not ejaculating, it begins to significantly affect me, and I:

* Become more irritable and short tempered
* Have difficulty sleeping
* Difficulty concentrating
* Become more aggressive
* Feel 'wired' like I had too much coffee or something.
* Think sexual thoughts nearly constantly (affects concentration).

These are all symptoms of high testosterone levels. I have these symptoms for as long as I don't ejaculate, and they progressively build up the longer I don't ejaculate. Once I ejaculate, the symptoms disappear or go down significantly.

So my theory is that the longer I don't ejaculate, the higher my testosterone levels get. I don't know if any research has studied this effect or not. But it would be interesting to measure testosterone levels of someone who ejaculated every day, and someone who hasn't for 3 weeks or more.

Again, this is just a theory of mine, and there's a good chance I'm completely wrong. Some may argue that its the brain that causes the symptoms I'm getting from not ejaculating. I think its the hormones that are causing the brain to think that way. The reason I think that is because before puberty, I masturbated, and I could stop masturbating for long periods of time and never experience those symptoms. If it was the brain causing those symptoms, then I would have gotten them before puberty too, but I didn't (not much testosterone present before puberty).

Anyway, that's my theory. Anyone else?

Doing some web research on the topic, I did find a research article written by a Chinese medical university that did do the exact research I was talking about. Looks like I was at least partially right! Here's the summary:

Quote:
Abstract:The purpose of this study is to gain understanding of the relationship between ejaculation and serum testosterone level in men. The serum testosterone concentrations of 28 volunteers were investigated daily during abstinence periods after ejaculation for two phases. The authors found that the fluctuations of testosterone levels from the 2nd to 5th day of abstinence were minimal. On the 7th day of abstinence, however, a clear peak of serum testosterone appeared, reaching 145.7% of the baseline (P<0.01). No regular fluctuation was observed following continuous abstinence after the peak. Ejaculation is the precondition and beginning of the special periodic serum testosterone level variations, which would not occur without ejaculation. The results showed that ejaculation-caused variations were characterized by a peak on the 7th day of abstinence; and that the effective time of an ejaculation is 7 days minimum. These data are the first to document the phenomenon of the periodic change in serum testosterone level; the correlation between ejaculation and periodic change in the serum testosterone level, and the pattern and characteristics of the periodic change.

Here's another study I found:

Endocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm in healthy men following a 3-week sexual abstinence.

Exton MS, Kruger TH, Bursch N, Haake P, Knapp W, Schedlowski M, Hartmann U.

Institut fur Medizinische Psychologie, Universitatsklinikum Essen, Germany. michael.exton@uni-essen.de

This current study examined the effect of a 3-week period of sexual abstinence on the neuroendocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm. Hormonal and cardiovascular parameters were examined in ten healthy adult men during sexual arousal and masturbation-induced orgasm. Blood was drawn continuously and cardiovascular parameters were constantly monitored. This procedure was conducted for each participant twice, both before and after a 3-week period of sexual abstinence. Plasma was subsequently analysed for concentrations of adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol, prolactin, luteinizing hormone and testosterone concentrations. Orgasm increased blood pressure, heart rate, plasma catecholamines and prolactin. These effects were observed both before and after sexual abstinence. In contrast, although plasma testosterone was unaltered by orgasm, higher testosterone concentrations were observed following the period of abstinence. These data demonstrate that acute abstinence does not change the neuroendocrine response to orgasm but does produce elevated levels of testosterone in males.
