Taking Viagra and Still Having Problems

I want a man's point of view on this one guys. My husband is 43 years old and has been taking Viagra for two years because he was having problems maintaining an erection. After having "success" a couple of times, we decided to see if his problem had just been temporary and decided to see what happened if he didn't take it. He was able to maintain, but I really liked how hard the Viagra made him, so he continued taking it mainly for my pleasure. For the past three weeks, his old problem has come back about 80% of the time (while taking Viagra). A couple of times he hasn't gotten an erection at all no matter what we try. I feel confused, worried, disgusted because I feel it is me that just isn't turning him on anymore. He insists this isn't it, but I can't help the way I feel. It's like, if it isn't happening while he is on Viagra, I must be a real loser. I know he feels just terrible about this. He went to the doctor yesterday and he told him it happens sometimes, but on Viagra?? Has anyone else had this happen and if so what did you do?

Re: Taking Viagra and Still Having Problems

Viagra doesn't cause an erection, it simply prevents the chemicals that cause the erection from being broken down quickly and thus prolongs the erection and its intensity. But, if those chemicals are not made in the first place, then viagra can't help, or if the problem is blood flow it can't help.

The question is: why is he having trouble getting an erection? Did his doctor do an evaluation, or just prescribe viagra. Several simple things that are easy to test for, and can cause viagra not to work properly are: low testostererone, low thyroid, low adrenal output, high prolactin, high blood sugar (diabetes). Did your husband have these blood tests? Were they normal. Does your husband have other symptoms like depression, fatigue, weight gain, frequent urination, irritable, and/or apathy?

It is very important to discover the cause of impotence because it can be an early sign of diabetes, heart disease, testicle failure, brain tumor and other disease. The origin of your husbands impotence should be established before he takes viagra, not after.
