21 yr old low testosterone! Help

I am 21 yrs old with 168 total testosterone.

How long after one injection of testosterone cypionate (200mg) does it take for your levels to come back?
My GP gave me one injection of testosterone then realized he had to test my FSH/LH. They were tested 1 week after the injection and came back really low. After 4 weeks off testosterone I was tested again and my levels came back normal, but the Endo wants me to wait 30-45 days to retest before starting trt.

I was just wondering if I should wait or start my treatment? Also If I have to go on treatment, would you suggest injections or the gel? I heard that using the gel increases the risks of losing hair. Is that true??
Thank you.

Re: 21 yr old low testosterone! Help

Dude, find new doctors.....any who would put a 21 year old on TRT without first doing exhaustive tests to determine the cause of your low are quacks!!

At your age having low T could be because of many significant issues, pit tumor, thyroid issues, testicular cancer etc

At 21 you don't want TRT you want a fix. TRT is for life and you have long road to go. Also it will most likely make you sterile....want a family ever?

Go find a new doc who will do right by you.....run full panels, ct-scans, etc. there is most likely a reason for your low T and a solution that will fix your issue and your low T too.

Amazes me how many docs are totally clueless about low T and still try to treat it without any proper training.

Good luck but find new Doc's now!

Re: 21 yr old low testosterone! Help

The doctor ran tests and the MRI came back normal. My first set of blood work one week after 1 testosterone injection came back with all levels low (LH/FSH) except prolactin which was high.
Then 3 weeks after my injection, I was tested again and all my levels were in the normal range (cortisol, igf, growth hormone, ACTH) except testosterone (150ng/dl total). The doc checked my testes and found no lumps or bumps so I assumed no teste cancer. My FSH/LH after my injection was really low, now after stopping for 3 weeks it's in the normal range.

Could I have primary hypogonadism? What else should I have tested?
Also, is 4 weeks enough time for my LH/FSH to recover from the injection?

Re: 21 yr old low testosterone! Help

I am secondary.....meaing the the LH FSH signal from my Pit are not strong enough to allow my testicles to make sufficient T.

Primary would be that the LH FSH are sufficiently strong but the Testicles are not making sufficient T even though they are being told to.

If you went sufficiently thru puberty and you have sufficient growth in the man areas etc. then I would suspect that it is secondary.....also considering that the tests did show low LH and FSH....one shot would not normally knock them down so quickly. Regardless a month or so should be sufficient to clear one shot and have another go at the labs.

Its encouraging to see more tests were run than what you first indicated. I would however be exhaustive in having as many tests as possible and look for other solutions prior to beginning TRT.

A clomid restart is a possibility if in fact you are confirmed as secondary.

If in fact you do need to go on TRT look to have some semen extracted and stored in case you elect to have a family later. Also find a doc who really treats with TRT, there is far more to it then just getting a shot every two weeks. In fact proper treatment will make a huge difference in how good you feel for life.

My advice keep working on it 21 is way to young to be on TRT unless you absolutely have to.

Good Luck

Awesome advice!

Boscot, did you try Clomid or HCG before? I did that and it did nothing to my low T, it actually lowered it (went from 280 down to 190, frees are almost at 0).

Doc is now saying that I'm primary, no response from the testes.

Re: 21 yr old low testosterone! Help

I tried clomid in varying doses for a year....got some boost in T but only at high dosage and frequently......even then it really didnt address symptoms sufficiently and soon as I tapered as you must do at high levels.....so did my T levels and any benefits.

At 21 he may want to try a restart and it might take depending on his situation.

I now take HCG daily as part of my TRT program....it helps as a supplement but it's not an entire answer for me......I still needed T-Cyp to complete me.

I've been diagnosed as primary (nothing from FSH/LH).

Did you have sleepiness/fatigue as a symptoms prior to treatment?

Re: 21 yr old low testosterone! Help

I would recommend seeing a specialist like a endocrinologist ASAP to check the cause of this. I am on testosterone therapy and get injections at the drs office every 3 weeks. I am 32.

Re: 21 yr old low testosterone! Help

Low T has many symptoms....

I had

Low energy, tiredness, anxiety, loss of love of life, brain fog, low libido, ED etc.

Anxiety, Libido and ED being my primary ones.....

TRT has made a huge difference in my life.....however you need a doc who knows how to treat with it.....

its a whole lot more to it then just slapping on some Gel or getting a shot every 2 weeks or so.

good luck

Re: 21 yr old low testosterone! Help

Yeah I'm also young 23 and am wondering if I have hypongonadism instead of secondary hypongonadism

I also have pelvic floor problems and sometimes my left testicle is very cold so I'm thinking that this might be part of the problem

Lack of blood flow clomid hasnt completely helped me and I'm been on it for about 3 months I feel a little better though not nearly where I want to me

I also ordered a about a year and a half ago and didn't cycle it and misused it so I'm wondering if this plays a big factor

Any help or input would be appreciated I just want all this nonsense to end
