Problem with penis sensitivity - Any suggestions?

Basically, I'm 17 years old, uncircumcised and have only started cleaning my penis a few weeks ago (my parents used to do this for me when I was very little but when I got old enough to start doing it myself, I was always reluctant to do so because the glans felt too sensitive). Whenever I get a shower I make sure to retract the foreskin down to the base of the glans but whenever I touch it I draw my hand back pretty quickly because it feels quite unpleasant (I wouldn't exactly call it painful, just pretty sensitive). However, simply running water over it while it's exposed feels ok aside from a few tingles here and there and seems to get rid of all the smegma as well.

I've done some looking-up on this before and quite a few people seem to suggest that running the exposed glans under the shower for a few minutes every day will desensitise it to a point where touching it will not be so unpleasant. I was wondering if anyone can attest to that or give me a few other ideas of what I could do to make my penis a little less sensitive.

You are doing the right thing in the shower: retracting your foreskin and letting the water jet onto your exposed glans is one way of desensitising it. You should also soap up your penis and move your fingers over the glans. The more you touch the glans, the less sensitive it will become. At other times, retract your foreskin and apply lots of lubrication (baby oil, lotion, saliva, lube usually used for sex) and touch your glans as much as possible. Eventually you will be able to experience pleasure without over-sensitivity.

Ok, thanks for the other info about using baby oil and lube to help out with it, I'll make sure to try it in the future.
