Thumbs down foliculitus on penis and area for 3 years help a guy out

Hey iv had foliculitus for about 3 years now, first it was a yeast infection then moved to foliculitus , iv tried.every cream and pill.on the book right now in trying to take nizoral tablets and have a healthy diet but I work out.lots and sweats lots at work, iv went for a biopsy and the doctor said I have no bacteria in it, the dermatoligst pretty much gave up, don't know what else to do, I take a multi vitamin , fish oil, Turmeric cap, every day, and shower every day and wash that area with soap, if the viopsy came clean I was thinking maybe its caused by yeast its very hard.to get rid of, its.not extremely bad hut really persistent iv got tested and I'm fine. If you have any suggestions I may not have done email me at [DELETED] thanks!!

Re: foliculitus on penis and area for 3 years help a guy out

Following a candida diet can help minimize yeast. Basically it's just good healthy eating but also some specific things like avoiding alcohol, sugar, dairy products, high omega-6 fats (cottonseed, canola, soy, peanut, etc.), and especially avoiding most supplements (including vitamins and a lot of others things). It seems at least in people prone to yeast, vitamins and such tend to help the yeast more than they do the person. (There are actually a ton of recommendations that you can learn about elsewhere.)

I believe fish oil has a reputation for causing fungus problems. Avoiding it might help.

The greasiness of creams works against the drugs in them when it's not a strong enough anti-fungal. Maybe you've already tried anti-fungal soaps. Personally I like Neutrogena T-Gel (active anti-fungal ingredient pine tar 1-2%). It's actually a dandruff shampoo, but it's very drying. And dryness stops fungus.

Yeah iv been taking fish oil so I cam stop that and been drinking four glasses of milk a day so I van cut that out to, I drink about twice a month hopefully that doesn't bother it to much, and iv actually never tried any anti fungal soaps iv just been using normal soap. Could I just get an anti fungal soap at a drug store like pharmasave, I also take a multi vitamin, sea buckthorn caps, and was going to start taking and vitamin c cause I heard they fight it off and i take protein would that be bad, ot doesn't have many calories though.

Re: foliculitus on penis and area for 3 years help a guy out

First it's absolutely worth considering that folliculitis could just be from washing too much or with too harsh or too filmy a soap for your skin, or friction or other source of irritation. But it could also be microbial and it sounds like you have a lot of pro-fungal things you might try avoiding now and dietary adjustments to consider to minimize fungal infection susceptibility.

The only supplement-type thing I see candida folks talking about taking is probiotics. Probiotics help prevent yeast/fungus. Oh, and I see turmeric has also been recommended to help treat/prevent candida, so that was a good idea at least.

Also, yes, Neutrogena T-Gel is just a regular dandruff shampoo they sell anywhere with a shampoo selection like most drug stores. There's also an extra strength version. I'd say be careful to keep soap out of your meatus, but you've probably known that stings (like all get out) since you were little.

Besides that particular brand, there are a ton of different over-the-counter anti-fungal soaps and stuff. I like pine tar soap/shampoo (like T-Gel) way better than tea tree, but I see there are a lot of tea tree anti-fungal soaps for sale. There's neem soap too, I've never tried it. I've seen there's a newer deodorized neem concentrate that's even more effective too. And at the weak end of the anti-fungal spectrum, rosemary/thyme/etc soaps are mildly anti-fungal too (but too weak for me for preventing dandruff, a different but similar tenacious fungal infection). Whatever soap you use, you probably want to avoid ones that leave a filmy residue (like moisturizing soaps like Dove) as they can disturb healthy skin microbe ecology encouraging infection.

And as it usually says on the directions, it helps to leave it on for a minute or two before rinsing it off thoroughly. This maximizes the anti-fungal effect.

Using an anti-fungal soap instead of (or in addition to) a weak anti-fungal cream might help. You should be able to get stronger anti-fungals (soaps/creams) from your doctor too (including the strongest things available)--the Nizoral tablets are a pretty strong anti-fungal treatment though, so you should have that covered.

The most common cause of chronic folliculitus is shaving. If you are shaving, stop shaving and it will clear up. As long as you continue to shave, there is no cure. If you are not shaving, then, there is a constant dietary input or lack of bowel movements that is causing a system back up with spillover into your skin. Good Luck

Bad dietary impute and bowel back up? What do you mean, I eat really healthy and I don't shave down there anymore haven't for awhile. I work out plenty to so I am healthy, the t gel is working well it always seems to come back though, I'm going to drop most of the supplements iv been taking, and iv been drinking green tea so weill see if that works to.

Re: foliculitus on penis and area for 3 years help a guy out

I believe Naturista was referencing the fact that poor digestion is something that increases fungal infection susceptibility. That's probably how probiotics help with fungal infections. (Though physical spillover of yeast onto the skin is not how that probably works--except for the vagina. There's another connection in digestive yeast creating pro-yeast/pro-microbe metabolites that circulate systemically encouraging infections other places in the body--there's a fungal infection for any area of the body external and internal.)

There's absolutely no reason for this to become a relationship issue, but you've probably realized it's possible you're getting yeast from your girl. This is actually the most common cause of penile yeast infection. (To be fair, penises are probably the most common cause of vaginal yeast infections too.) It's possible it might help if she consumed some cranberry at least about weekly. It could certainly help you too.

Cranberry's flavonoids (anthocyanins & others) keep yeast and bacteria from clinging to our tissues where they can grow rapidly. There are currently ongoing clinical trials in the US testing anthocyanins' efficacy in preventing colon, prostate and esophageal cancers. Apparently they've worked well in animals. (I only just read about this. And nothing's been proved in humans yet one way or the other, but it's pretty interesting.)

Another thing about supplements and stuff, I'm pretty sure that a big part of the reason I got dandruff (fungus) was because I had been taking alkaline minerals. Raising certain minerals high relative to metals (and calcium) can make fungus much more of an issue, because it suppresses the immune system.

Cinnamon is a potent dietary source of some metals (esp. iron and manganese). Zinc and manganese increase the effectiveness of the immune system against fungus and other pathogens. Note high amounts of these are very bad too (toxic even). MUCH too much cinnamon can actually cause symptoms of manganese poisoning (muscle tremors), so certainly don't go crazy. You might just use it in food a bit more often.

Mineral, metal and general nutritional balance is a pretty delicate thing. I would quit any supplements unless they're definitely antifungal. And I would probably only use foods to adjust nutrition in the future, because it's harder to get very out-of-balance using only food sources of nutrients.

Re: foliculitus on penis and area for 3 years help a guy out

Well I don't think its a penile yeast infection, cause I don't have any symptoms of that, like my penis is fine just enflamed skin, sometimes and it will go away usually though its been gone since, iv been following most of this stuff, like tea , Turmeric and eating healthy for the most part. And trying not to drink much, Yeah my chick had a yeast infection pretty sure , she lost most symptoms but still lord of pain for her during sex , she is convinced she doesn't have one though and they did a swab and that and couldn't find any yeast that's why shes convinced but i definitely thinly she could have one, cause shr use to have every symptom then most are gone just pain during sex..

Yeast infections can have many different sorts of symptoms. Sometimes yeast can be very mild like your problem. Folliculitis (and all sorts of other irritations and inflammations--even acne) can be symptoms of yeast. (Seriously, look it up.)
