| Maddening Groin Itch - Cannot Determine Cause
I am a healthy 42 year old man with no real health issues in my past. However, I have had several issues with itchy skin, but there has always been a cause, mainly with vascular issues in my legs.
Roughly 2 years ago, I began to suffer a crazy, maddening itch on the underside of my testicles. This itch is so bad that when it strikes, it is impossible for me to function - I have had to leave business meetings, social events, etc. because I simply MUST attend to the itch.
There is no visible reason for the itch. The area is not inflamed or red, excessively dry or excessively moist. There are no lesions, bumps, flakiness.... nothing.
My doctor and I have exhausted all of the normal ideas. I have changed from bar soap to itch-reducting body wash. I have tried moisturizers and powders. I have tried limiting the amount of washing done to the area. We have done a dozen different creams, including cortizone. The cortizone worked for a few weeks, but now it has returned to the previous state, despite it's continued use.
Now it seems to be spreading to my stomach and forearms. It is seriously affecting my quality of life - either I am itching like mad or I am in pain from the amount of scratching I have done.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I have hit the point where I would visit a shaman, a witch doctor or a gypsy caravan if I thought there was something there that could help.
