| Itchy Undercarriage
Hello- I'm a 35 year old heterosexual athletic male.
I've searched and found many threads similar to what I have, often called itchy red scrotum. However I wanted to start a thread of exactly what I've experienced.
For the last 10-12 years, I've experienced often intense itching of the anus, undercarriage and lower/under scrotum for periods of 1-4 weeks at a time, about 4-8 times a year. I had periods where it happened maybe only once a year.
Typical "episode" starts out with an itchy anus. It then seems to travel towards my under-scrotum, and the folds where my legs and scrotum meet. Itching can be intense, and actually can feel good to scratch. If I scratch too much, it leads to rawness and some blood and cut skin. In examining the lower part of the scrotum, when its at its worse, the skin is leathery, inflamed/bumpy and a little red. I don't get any sores or anything, other than the ones I create by scratching.
I've gone to 2 doctors for it over that time. The first doc tested me for STDs and said it was fungal. He prescribed me Clotrimazole-Betamethasone cream and Selenium Sulfide shampoo. Second doctor years later diagnosed and prescribed the same thing. Treatment worked a little over time, but since the issue goes away on its own anyways (usually if I stop scratching), I never really know if its truly working.
I have tinea versicolor as well, and I think this may be related in some way. I workout a lot and it seems to happen in the warmer months. Winter has been good, except it just came back and made me post this. Its not nearly as bad, as I'm not itching it that much, and inspecting the area, its only dry skin, no inflammation.
Can anyone offer any insight? Much appreciated.
