Question Strong fish-like smell coming from penis. Help!

For the past months i'll get a random fishy smell coming from my penis during the day. It makes me really self conscious whenever I'm with my friends. I masturbate often and haven't had sex yet. I'm also certain that i'm free of any STDs.

A little while ago the tip of my penis hurt whenever I peed. I got it checked out and i found out I had a urinary tract infection in the past (the pain is still there but not nearly as bad as it was. I think I've just grown used to it). I don't usually wash under my foreskin as it makes me uncomfortable to pull it back. I'd like to get rid of the smell as soon as possible since i would imagine it being a big turn off for any sexual partners.

Which of the aforementioned occurrences would lead to this smell (if any of them)? How could I be rid of it? Has anyone else dealt with this kind of problem?

That's probably the reason for the smell. And you're right about it being a turn-off for sexual partners, particularly for oral sex. It's essential to pull back your foreskin and wash the penis head thoroughly every time you shower.

When you say it makes you "uncomfortable" to retract your foreskin, do you mean your exposed penis head is painful to touch? If so, you need to make it less sensitive by touching it as much as possible: you can do this by retracting your foreskin in the shower, soaping up your penis and touching it for a while each day. At other times, use lubrication on the exposed penis head to make it easier to touch.

If retraction is "uncomfortable" because your foreskin is tight, find the sticky headed Stretching To Fix Tight Foreskin (Phimosis) at the top of the Men's Health Message Board and do those stretching exercises (with an erection) regularly each day for a month.

You should also retract your foreskin when you pee: it's cleaner that way.

If you do not wash under the foreskin daily your glands can become infected. That is not a place you want a bacterial infection. Sweat, dead skin cells, bacteria, and debri will collect and cause a painful cyst eventually. You will have to get shots and the cyst will have to be lanced. Cut open and drained. It is an extremely painful process that you can avoid by washing the area and rinsing and drying it well. You need to be seen by a physician to ensure you don't already have an issue, since it is uncomfortable to the touch.
