| | urinary urgency while hearing running water
With chronic prostatitis and uncomfortable bladder spasms, urinary urgency has become intolerable and "painful" -- and "risky". The worst is when I run water and/or have my hands in water like when doing dishes or getting a drink of water. Sometimes this happens shortly after voiding , so it's not a matter of how full the bladder is. Typically I have a strong urge but only pass 4 oz. or less even during the worst spasms. Finasteride got that up to 6 oz initially, but seems to have become less effective after the first 3 weeks. With travel and just being away from the house inconvenient and at times risky [getting caught in stop and go traffic in rush hour a month ago was the final straw], I'm seriously thinking of going ahead with the TURP, but wondered if anyone else has a similar situation where the sound or feel of running water will trigger urgency? I rarely ever wake up at night and have to go [I may reealize i could, and then do, but rarely urgent at night], and can void 8-12 oz in the morning. But if I'm awake, 4-6 oz is the threshold. And if the [or a] stimulus is sound, or feel of water, regardless of real need, what can prevent or reduce that influence? Kegel's are minimally helpful. Sometimes just walking to the bathroom and distracting thoughts can reduce or make the urgency go away, but only for a while. And after a certain number of spasms, I know not to gamble on another. Does anyone else have similar triggers for urinary urgency with discomfort ["pain"] that is at times intolerable and maybe going to be disastrous? I wondered if hypnotism would work to reduce the effect of sound of water or hands in water? Or ever a TENS unit to block ["pain"] stimuli?
