Unhappy Something is wrong

I think something is wrong with me. Other people do too - like my husband for instance. I have mood swings. Sometimes I'm happy and in a good mood and talk alot. Other times I'm quiet and don't want to talk or be around anyone. And I'm always thinking he is doing something like cheating on me or whatever even though he only goes to work and comes home most of the time. I'm always suspicious. And some days I feel really irritated and don't know why. Even when I'm just sitting alone. I've had to apologize to a lot of my friends and family and people from my past for my moodiness and for taking things out on them. I always want affection from my husband and get moody when we don't show love but then when we do I pull away and get distant again. What is wrong with me? Where would I go to find out?

You should start by talking to your regular doctor. Print out your letter, and maybe make a little chart of your moods. It may be that you have a milder form of one of the Mood Disorders that are out there.
Or it may just be your personality!
Only your doctor, or one that you are referred to by him, would really be able to diagnose you based on what you have shared.

WWJD it's your thoughts that are causing your moodiness. I'm a big supporter of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) I suffered for years and was on meds but once I found CBT my life changed in a matter of weeks and was off meds and have never looked back. It's all based on getting your thoughts down on paper and finding any errors in your thoughts (There are 10 common thinking errors people make). Once you find them they are easy to refute and you feel more positive (and less moody) almost instantly. My favorite introductory book on CBT is "Been there Done that Do This" by Sam ***** it gives you a great overview of CBT from a guy who suffered before he found it. I think it would help you a great deal... Good Luck.

There's also the moodgym site, see if those exercises help you. If you feel that your moodiness is getting you into real trouble (like losing your job, financial problems, etc.), then you might consider making a doctor's appointment. But if it is just plain negative thoughts and sadness, CBT might be for you.

what's wrong with me

You are telling the story of my life a few years ago. I yelled at my kids all the time. My husband couldn't go to work without me thinking he was cheating. I was so jealous of everything. TALK TO YOU DOCTOR. I've been taking Paxil for over 2 years now. It has made a world of difference. I have a great relationship with my kids. My husband actually wants to come home now, he's not affraid of what I might acuse him of. Things that would have set me off don't anymore. I can go with whatever life hands me and deal with it. It is such a relief to not always feel out of control. My friend recently went to her doctor, after having problems with her husband and kids for a long time. Her doc put her on Wellbutrin. BIG change. She and her family are so much happier. Taking that first step and admitting there is a problem is the hardest. See your doctor, and don't be scared to tell exactly how your feeling. My life is so much better now. Take that step, you'll be glad you did. Good luck.
