I went to get my effexor refilled & found out my group's insurance was terminated, so I couldn't get my refill. Today was day 2 of withdrawal & I had some dizzy spells, confusion, & a little shaking. Now I'm wide awake at 4 a.m., too chicken to go back to sleep because of the nightmares. How long will this last? Is there anything I can do about it?
Go to the needymeds site and find out if there are other SSRI's you could get without insurance. I know Zoloft is one of them. Each manufacturer has different requirements, but in general they will want to check your income, you'll also need a prescription from your doctor. If you qualify for the meds, set yourself on a slow taper (6-10 weeks) to prevent those symptoms.
In the meantime, try valerian root for the insomnia (though not everyday, as it worsens depression) and passion flower for anxiety.
Call your doctor asap and explain the situation to him/her. Your doctor's office may have some samples that he can give you while you are pursuing the leads from the free medication sites.
The pharmacist can also split your script up to a weekly refill rather than a monthly to make it more affordable by purchasing a week's supply at one time rather than a monthly.
