I am too lazy - Mental Health Message Board

I have things at home I need to do, and end up lounging around too much.

When I'm at work, I don't get nearly as much work done as I should. Instead, I read articles on the internet.

Overall at work, I am a little bored of my work, but I'm also falling behind in my tasks, because I am not working hard enough on them.

Any ideas on how to reduce my laziness, and get more ambitious at work? My boss hasn't noticed (or at least said anything) yet. But he might eventually realize my productivity is not very good. I am usually a good worker, but sitting at a desk all day seems to make me be lazy.

more exercise, long walks and perhaps joining a gym should help improve your energy

Have you been checked for ADD? That sometimes manifests itself as "laziness" when really, it's just that taking on more is overwhelming to the ADD brain.

If you are not ADD (which I hope you aren't), you may just need a career or job change.

So are you fatigued and lie down for a nap, or fall asleep while watching TV? Do you find it difficult to concentrate or have memory problems? Do you find the thought of doing something makes you tired?

If so, it might be a lack of exercise but I would also suspect thyroid problems or early diabetes. You should have your doctor check those things.

Have you always been this way?
For example, I don't know how old you are, but my boss's kids who are in their 20's don't like to work because they've never HAD to. No reason and no motivation.

Since you've posted this in the Mental Health section do you have a medical condition? Depression for example? Not having energy to do things IS a symptom of depression.
Just wondering if you had any other information that might help narrow down why you are this way...
