Effexor and ringing in the ears??

Does anyone who takes Effexor experience this problem?
If so, does it go away?
Also, since stopping Lexapro and starting this Effexor, I've started having pretty bad headaches.
I'm making a Dr. appointment tomorrow. But I was just wondering if anyone else has been through this as well. In other words, is this a common side effect?

I currently take that med. No issues to discuss.

Re: Effexor and ringing in the ears??

I have been taking Effexor for a couple months now and just started having ringing in the ears. I already get migraines so I can't speak to the headaches. The other thing I noticed is twitching of my muscles (wierd!). It is really helping my depression so I have been putting up with it...

Well, I noticed ringing in my ears. The ringing was constant. I thought it was tinnitis, but ever since I have been off it, My hearing seems better. As a musician, I was very worried about my hearing.

Getting off Effexor is hell. I noticed my muscles twitching a lot too, especially in my face. I also had uncontrollable yawning...not because I was tired, but because the muscles in my neck were making my throat open in a way that seemed to trigger my yawn reflex over and over. It was weird.

I'm taking Effexor now. I've been taking it for a year. What was getting off of it like? Why did you switch?

Re: Effexor and ringing in the ears??

Hi, I was on Effexor for a year but I came off it because I didn't feel it helped (probably because I don't think depression was at the root of the problem) and I actually had to switch to a less strong pill because I couldn't handle the withdrawal symptoms when I finally decided to come off it.

The worst withdrawal symptom I think I had was the dizziness, and this feeling I've heard described as brain zaps where you get a really tingly dizzy feeling that seems to shot through your head and down your arms.
I also had extreme nausea and cried uncontrollably.

I think too many doctors just completely ignore the withdrawal effects that these drugs have.

I think if you are planning to come off effexor you should do what I did. Get prescribed a gentler pill which will take away the withdrawal symptoms of the effexor, and then you should be able to come off the other pill (I tried Cipralex) without much problems.
