Scared of Zyprexa HELP PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU!! - Mental Health Message Board

I am a hypochondriac with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder who has just started on meds.. had to be admitted because I was too afraid to take the meds at home.. I am on 25 mgs of Zoloft to start.. no problems with side effects and ony 2.5 mgs of Zyprexa at night.. the Zyprexa scares me.,. can anyone tell me if this drug is really dangerous, and if I have a chance of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome... I have taken the Zyprexa for 6 days.. and the past two days I have had bad anxiety 2 hours after the med and tachychardia... Can anyone tell me about Zyprexa.. they prescribed it for anxiety and racing thoughts..

I was on 2.5 mg for a week because a doctor tried to diagnose me with BPD (long story). It's used to treat BPD and Schizophrenia. Although I was misdiagnosed, I liked the drug because it did help calm me down immediatly. I just didn't want to take it because I didn't want to be treated for something I didn't have. I know that you have anxiety about taking meds, but try not to worry about long term affects. Zyprexa is a new drug, and they say that it does have less side effects. I was feeling some side effects on it, shakes, bursts of energy, foggy vision. My doctor was going to lower the dose of my Paxil because mixing the two can have that effect. Maybe that's what your feeling. Talk to your doctor. Hope I could help! Keep us posted.

My understanding is that Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome is a side effect from the class of antipsychotic drugs or major tranquilizers called neuroleptics.

Zyprexa (generic is olanzipine) is a psychotropic agent that belongs to the thienobenzodiazepine class - so Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome is NOT on the list of side effects for Zyprexa.

You and I have something in common you know...
Our disorders make us believe something even if logically it just isn't so.
I have Bipolar Disorder. Without medication I could get psychotic enough to end up in a hospital.
With hypochondria and anxiety disorders you are going to fixate on everything that could possibly go wrong with a particular medication.

Just as long as you're aware enough to do a doublecheck on your fear (like checking in here!!) that will be of great help in lessoning them...

actually Zyprexa is in the class of atypical antipsychotics .. and I have stopped the med... but thanks

Amberay... question could you just quit cold turkey.. when I called the makers of the drug and the pharmacist they said I could just quite the med.. it was giving me agitation and messing with my Blood Pressure.. plus the tachychardia was no fun either. My Psych. started me on Zoloft and Zyprexa both.. but I wanted her to really see how the Zoloft was going to do first before we add more into the mix... I used to be on Prozac and that was all the medicine I needed... so Let me know if your Dr SAID YOU COULD QUIT COLD TURKEY.. and if you experienced any side effects..
