ok read this story and tell me what you think is going on

IS THIS PERSON SUFFERING FROM A MENTAL DISORDER OR SOMETHING REALLY GOING ON...

a realitive of mine this year started complaining that someone is breaking into their house and damaging their stuff. NOTHING is ever stolen, just things are broken(that is what is claimed) . some of the stuff that is said to be broke has been in use for years. other stuff makes no sense in even touching

all the windows are locked and hard to climb into and the door has 2 locks. its an apt building and the neighbor across the hall is home MOST of the day because she is retired. yet she never sees or hears anything

so at first the relative was saying that she believe that her daughter was breaking into the house and doing the stuff with a boyfriend to be spiteful. the problem is the daughter is single, works long hrs, doesn't have a car to drive the 11miles to her mothers house at odd hours and most importantly when these so called issues are happening the daughter is at work, home sleeping or actually out of town-all of which can be verified. the daughter has no reason to do that stuff either

so the realitive started telling other family members that she believed her daughter was doing it and basically no one believed her because its impossible. the relative even went as far as to call and harass the daughter at work, on her home phone and cell phone. they stopped talking for 1month because of that.

so then the relative modified the story to say that the daughter knows who is breaking in but won't tell

again mind you the windows are LOCKED, are not accessable and there is no sign of a break in and the locks have been changed more than once.

she only called the police dept ONCE to file a report and of course the cop was like because nothing was missing and there was no sign of entry.

the relative won't get a security system for her apt (has 101 excuses why she can't) and cannot move at this point (another 101 excuses) but won't call the cops, the landlord, but always calls the daughter to complain

the general concensus is that either a) the relative is going crazy and IMAGINING this stuff to be happening or b) she is doing it herself for sympathy or maybe not remembering doing that stuff.

but the fact remains that there is never any sign of entry, no one has a key but HER, no one can get in the place and she won't take measures to secure the apt(she won't borrow the $ for a security system) won't call the cops or landlord but always complains to the daughter.

so is this a sign of mental illness?
mind you there may be a history of mental illness since the relatives mother seemed to have some of the same issues-accusing folks of doing stuff that was impossible, imagining things, lying non stop etc. for the record we have no idea what was wrong with the mother and have no way of finding out.

This sounds like paranoia, which is a symptom of schizophrenia or manic depression.

it's possible she is mentally ill but it is also possible that she is mad at her daughter for not visiting or paying enough attention to her. maybe she thinks that if enough people get this misinformation to her that at least she will go see her mother to confront her and then she will at least see her.

the daughter does visit a few times a month to see her sibilings and her grandfather but how much more visiting can she really do when her mother is acting so horrible towards her and she works a lot? at the same time the daughter has a right not to put up with that nonsense more than she has too

Hello FineChyna,

Just my two cents worth. To me, it does sound bit like episodes of attention seeking, but now she is in the cycle of knowing that the more she says things like this the more attention she will get, and then she has to fabricate more and more stories to keep the momentum going.

I personally do feel that it is a cry for help because the lady is very lonely, and saying all of this to be noticed. Loneliness is a dreadful thing. I know you said the lady has visitors, but when they are gone, she has to cose her door and be on her own.

Just my thoughts on it.
