What's up with me

I found this board and thought it be an interesting thing to see if any of you could come up with what could be wrong with me.

I am 17, and live with my grandparents. I live there because I didn't get along with my step dad and had alot of fights with my mom.

Around 4th grade I started having angry outbursts and things like that at teachers and family members, that continued up through 7th grade.

I have trouble holding conversations with people without saying something that to them doesnt sound completely strange.

I cannot drive, because I forget what I'm supposed to be doing exactly.

It's really hard for me to use names alot of the time. I've lied and said I don't remember any phone calls just so I don't have to use peoples names.

It's hard for me to call people. I don't know why.

Sometime I feel sad and alone, but like that feeling.

Other times when I'm alone and something really upsets me (Self esteem doubts, people insulting me, or even the news) I'll have bouts of anger which usually ends up with me finding things that won't be too bad to break and breaking them.

I have an obsession with keeping old things.

I am phobic of frogs. One got in my room about a month ago and I freaked out and didn't know what to do.

I'm sure there's others and I'm sure I'm just getting through a hard night but whatever. If anyone has anything interesting to say, it'd be cool though.

Re: What's up with me

You actually sound pretty normal for a 17 yr old guy to be honest!!!
I'm wondering if the angry outburst were related to your parent's divorce or your Dad's death - I wasn't sure of the reason for the StepDad.
It's hard enough to deal with divorce and death when you're my age - it's especially hard for young guys who have a hard time talking about feelings and communicating.
Anger is an emotion that hangs out closer to the surface than hurt and pain. That may be why you have the rage type feelings.

The frog phobia isn't so strange - just about everyone has a phobia. I've heard that you can fake yourself right out of a phobia by slowing getting used to frogs for example.
Like pulling up some articles/pictures of them on the web, or in a book and looking at them a little longer each time. Then seeing a frog in an aquarium from a distance and getting a little closer, etc.
Alot of people just end up accepting their phobia too.

How are you doing otherwise? Like classes and extra-curricular stuff?
I understand the alone thing and not liking to pick up the phone.
I've always felt more "alone" than lonely when I'm by myself. And I have a couple really good friends who know I probably won't call them but they like me anyway!

It does get better. I can tell you that... Keep concentrating on the grades - honestly that's the key to alot of it. And if you're keeping an eye on the grades you'll pay less attention to some of the things that may seem pretty nutty now but will be long gone by the time you're 27...
Been there, Done that!

Re: What's up with me

hey Oddis,
hmmm...do you want to change? Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong...let's see...why bother with people's names if you don't want to get to know them? You won't be held responsible if you don't want to keep track of whoever calls you. Don't worry, they'll give up calling you soon. Why get to know them at all? you don't want to be involved in their mess, do you? Why would I give a fly'n f'k when I can't even control my own life? I don't need you to f'k'n tell me how your life sucks when I feel like choking you just to watch your eyeballs turn blood red and feel your throat crunch in my hands.

what I'm saying is it's normal for you to have these feelings. Hormonal changes will cause anger and rage. Nobody is ever happy with their bodily changes. Very few people are happy with their body image. It's natural to express your pent up anger. Try using that anger in sports and outdoor activity. Ask your grandpa to help you. He'll appreciate it, because he prob knows what your going thru.

Conversation is a learned skill for me. The more you do it, the better you get at it. My brain is always in overdrive or reverse, and with some meds, it slows it down even worse. You just have to learn to talk a certain way, draw out the syllables, accentuate the accent if you have to. I do it just so my brain can catch up/slow down to gather my thoughts

You like to hang on to old things because it's a part of you; you're comfortable with things you know and like. We all hang on to things that bring back memories, good and bad. I'm a horder/pack rat because I grew up poor, so I never throw anything away. I'm not happy with it, but I'm comfortable. As chaotic and uncertain my life may be, at least I've got my memories to hang on to.

Don't worry about it, bud. You've got time. Get out and live dam'it!!
