My mother has a MASSIVE problem with lying and exaggerating. It's hard for people to understand how unusual this is because we all lie and exaggurate to some extent, but this is BEYOND normal.

I can give you some idea of how bad she is by telling you that last year she came to me, crawling on the floor, clutching her chest. She was crying and telling me that she was having a heart attack. I told her to go away. If it was anyone else I would be rushing to call an ambulance. She went to the hospital and was APPARENTLY told that she had a heart attack. Unless I speak to the doctor who treated her, I don't believe a word of it.

She is always telling people stories that are exaggurated. When I point her out on her lies she denies it. Each time she tells the story the exagguration gets bigger. It gets to the point where it's not even close to the original story.

She also seems to have a selective memory. If she said something mean or saw someone who she cares about do something mean, she won't remember it. Like the time my brother tried to punch me in the face. She was there and begged him to stop, yet a week later when I bought it up, it "never happened". You can catch her out on her remembering everything up until the point of the incident, but she will deny remembering it. She then puts you on a guilt trip, saying things like, "I can't understand why you think I would do something like that". I feel like she convinces herself the lies are true.

Usually, her lies/exaggerations make things sound alot worse than they are, not better. She seems to enjoy being the victim.

Please, someone tell me what is going on.
