citalopram

anyone ever had any experience with this med. its an anti-depressant from the group of meds called "selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors". basically, its supposed to build up the serotonin levels in your brain over a period of weeks/months to treat severe episodes of depression (as opposed to something like valium which has an instant tranqualising effect).
i was prescriped this highest dose of these (40mil) to treat the depression/anxienty/paranioa brought on my years or drug abuse but after 3 months on the course they had no positive effect whatsoever.
anyone else had experience with these anti-d's? ive read on other sights that a lot of people have had bad experiences with them and i was just wondering if anyone on here has ever used them and what their experiences were? im wonndering if my doc has mis-diagnosed me!

citalopram also known as Celexa are a pretty common drug prescribed by doctors. It has a lot of the same side effects as paxil and effexor. I was on Celexa for two months and it did not suit me so I had to change. As for the doctor not diagnois you all I believe is citalopram is mainly prescribed for depression

if you dont mind me asking ,what med did you change to? did you find it more effective?

I know doctors prescribe citalopram for depression but i dont event think im depressed in a clinical sense (maybe i am a bit). i just mainly suffer from anxiety, paranoia, lack of energey etc. surely there must be a more effective treatment for these symptoms?!

I went from celexa than overnight switched to paxil then once that stopped I switched to effexor which I have been on for close to six months. I also take remeron, wellbutrin, lithium and zyprexa plus a sleeping aid. Mind you I have a treatment resistant severe form of major depressive disorder and GAD.

well i wish you all the best trg. i know how hard it can be to suffer from mental health problems and it sounds like yours are more severe than mine, so just keep your head up and i hope you're feeling ok just now.
did you find effexor more effective than citalopram? how do you feel generally when you're on all your meds?
