Is it possible to overcome depression/anger problems in such a short time?

Hey all, I have a question... I've known my ex boyfriend for 3 years. The whole time I've known him, he has gone through depression spells. Even when things were great in his life and he had no reason to be depressed, he always found a reason. He was always very angry, he had a major attitude and temper problem. He never worked, and then when he finally did get a job he was always late, calling out, etc..so he got fired.. Well, back in April he went to jail because he violated his parole (domestic violence case), he was there for 80 days. He called me the day he got out and claims to be a changed man. He said he's no longer depressed, he said he feels great and his mental state has improved so much. I must admit he did sound like a new man. But is this possible for someone to overcome mental problems over only 80 days and with no counceling? My thinking on this is that he is back in the real word, he is living someplace different now, he's starting a new job, everything is NEW. But I think once all the newness slows down and he's back into the normal life that his depression and anger problems will return. What do you all think?

I agree with you that maybe after his life goes back to normal he will fall back into the depression. It could be that he was just going through a rough patch when you knew him, but a 3 year rough patch doesn't seem likely. Maybe you should suggest he goes to therapy, even if he is feeling alright, so he stays feeling that way.

I'll be honest with you - I would bet he might just want to get back with you and is trying to convince you that prison turned him around.
