New to Lexapro - Mental Health Message Board

I have been taking 2.5 mg of ativan for about 7 months now..Dr. Just rx'ed Lexapro, but with no instructions....I dont know if it is safe to continue the ativan and start lexapro..but dont want to just stop taking it after this long. I have heard both are prescribed together on occasion, but want to be sure before I take it...Also, does it make you extremely tired, because I have 4 kids and babysit 2 others in the daytime...any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
p.s., doc gave me 10 mg tablets...am I supposed to start out at that or break it in half? doc is gone until sat morning...thanks again.

I would cut the tablets and take .5 for at least a few days before moving up to the 10. You may even want to try .5 for a week if you're new to ad's. It won't hurt to take the ativan with the lex....Normally, you need a benzo while getting used to the ssri. I would take the lex at night also and try taking the ativan only when you feel like you need it. Good luck! You may want to try the anxiety board as there is more activity on that board.
