Post strange disorder?

I have a strange problem. Ocasionally ( less than when I was a child) I get a sensation that everything I touch feels sort of fuzzy and fake. I get it when I'm trying to sleep, it gets so bad that I want to be sick! My skin ,the pillows and blankets all feel this way! I don't know what it is or what it's caused by, do you?

I CAN COMPLETELY RELATE.
Sometimes when I am trying to fall asleep it feels like my body is rapidly shrinking and growing and it feels that way when I touch my arm or whatever happens to be shrinking. But when I open my eyes everything is normal but I have to check like 10 times before I fall asleep. sometimes it feels like my body is changing to a fuzzy texture and I can't think more than one word at a time it feels like my brain is short circuiting. I think it's from stress and being very tired. Many people get variations of this: ie, Just as you drift off you are jerked awake by a falling sensation. I know that is pretty common. I am artistic and creative with a very active imagionation which I think is the reason it's so extreme for me, I imagine very vividly it seems real at times. Maybe its just your imagination, Try to just give in to it instead of worrying or fighting it, and try not to move or touch things and you will fade into sleep in no time. Atleast that works for me. good luck.

Heather,

By your thinking about it too much, you are giving those feelings power and making it worse. First you have to face head on that this is only a "feeling" It won't hurt you. Then, you have to ACCEPT that it is nothing more than a feeling. Don't examine it, don't give it a second thought. Once you've accepted that, try not to listen in on the feeling, just "float past it" In doing this, over time, you will notice it less and less, until it is gone.

The trouble with those of us who have strange feelings like this is that our minds are so sensative to our bodies and our surroundings. We have to try to de-sensatise ourselves and not read into our feelings. Just accept and float past them as though things are just fine.

I see that you are new to the board, and would HIGHLY recommend that you read Dr. Claire Weekes books "Hope and Help for your Nerves" and "Peace from Nervous Suffering" They will really help you to understand and get through much of what you are going through. They are pretty easy reading, short and to the point!

Hope you are feeling much better soon, and try not to worry, thing WILL get better.

Kim

Thank you for replying everyone. I didn't think anyone would. You guys are right when you say look past it and dom't let it take control. It's just so hard!! I also wanted to ask if anyone has been physically ill from a sensation like this before? When I woke up wearing gloves, it felt like the fabric was stuck to me even after I took them off and the fuzzyness slowly took over my whole body until I was sick! I know this is weird but it really helps to hear other peoples experiences. Thanks again

Hi Heather,

I suffer from anxiety and OCD. I obsess about my health. I could always control it until recently it got really bad when a bunch of bad things happened in my life. My whole body began to twitch and I had tiny muscle spasms in every muscle. It was constant, non-stop twitching. So bad it would keep me up at night. I went to every doctor, had every test, and it was concluded it was all stress related. Once I went on Zoloft and Xanax, they diminished considerably after a few days, and soon went away completely. I will still get an occasional twitch, but have learned to live with them. I know they won't harm me, so I don't give them a second thought.

Our symptoms may be different, but I will bet they are caused by the same types of thinking.

Hope you find the peace you deserve.

Kim
