Can antidepressants really permanently affect your body? Someone just told me that. I gained weight on them, 20 lbs. I stopped taking them 6 months ago and still can't get the weight off with diet and exercise. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Will I ever get back to normal?
The thing is, the meds did nothing for me. They didn't ease my anxiety. Actually, it was mostly social anxiety. Through support of friends I am pretty much over that. I am a much more confident person than I was a year ago. This is just due to adjusting to college and life. The only affect the meds had was to increase my weight rapidly and cause lots and lots of worry. I have always been weight concious so this was an issue. I never want to touch those meds again and thankfully I don't need to. I would just be much happier to be thin and fit again. I want to know how much of an affect they had longterm on my body.
Well, when I was on Prozac, I gained 15 pounds, but I attribute that to more or less my eating disorder. I first blamed it on Prozac, but now I realized that having had an eating disorder made me more vulnerable to appetite changes. Perhaps your body consciousness made you overly anxious about gaining weight, thereby becoming counterproductive and possibly contributing to the weight gain.
