I believe I have mild depression. I've never had suicidal thoughts....I just have problems being motivated, have been feeling down all the time, and have some social anxiety. I was recently prescribed Effexor XR for 37.5mgs.

I am taking some acne meds right now (moderate acne), but really want to take Accutane to get rid of my acne totally. My dermatologist recommended it before I was on the depression med, but I didn't have insurance and was leaving for college so I didn't start it.

I am being put on an insurance plan next month and would really like to get Accutane. When I last talked to my derm said the side effects would be low since I'd be taking a low dose, but this was before I was prescribed the Effexor. So I'm wondering if it would be safe to me to take Accutane while I'm on depression medication?

If anyone has any experience with this I would really appreciate it. I'm not too sure who to ask about this. My mother is kind of worried because I am depressed......she's heard of all the bad side effects. I assured her that I've never thought of hurting myself (I'm not motivated enough to actually do it, lol....but really, it's not something I've EVER considered), and that the Accutane would be a very small dose. She is still worried, though.

Any advice?
