HELP ME MOMS GOING CRAZY - Mental Health Message Board

My mom has significantly been changing over the last couple of years, at first it was little things like going to church a lot more often and not doing any of the wild things she use to do, over time it has progressed to the point where she is a totally different person, shes short tempered, highly religious to the point she prays most of the day, dosent want any part of my dad at all, thinks her youngest daughter is strange even though thats her very favorite, has called everyone in the family a liar and conspirator against her because we have all been begging her to go get checked out (she wont) She forgets things she says and does, I mean things have gotten so bad she now wants to divorce my dad of 34 years and trust me theres nothing wrong with their marriage. Do you think this could be menopause or perhaps a serious mental condition? The family is growing so concerned now for her safety we are considering baker acting her. Any advice would be soooo greatly appreciated. By the way my mom is 54.

I wish I could give you a quick fix, but I can't. Talk to the doctor and see what he/she says. They can give you all the info that's needed on how to deal with a noncompliant person. (Or can at least steer you in the right direction.) I hope things go well for you and pray for a speedy resolution. Good luck and keep us posted!

It sounds to me like with the paranoia of family and friends and the overly religious attitude that she is mentally disterbed. I would talk to a mental health worker asap and see what you can do for her within your legal means in your state. Most the time there isn't much you can do for them if they don't want the help.
