You may want to look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It is the most effective treatment for a variety of anxiety disorders and requires no expensive meds. It also works remarkably fast for most people. My favorite introductory book on the subject is "Been There, Done That? Do this!" by Sam *****. Many cities have free CBT based support groups as well.
