Cool How long after coming off Celexa (Citalopram) will it take to lose weight?

Hey

I have been on Celexa for about 9 months now and gained about 35 pounds. My doctor said this is due to an increased appetite but I haven't ate that much more to account for such a weight gain. I usually hover around 135 - 140 pounds and even if I put a little weight on it usually shifts pretty quick.

However, since being on Celaxa I can't shift a pound.

I am coming off it - I feel better and also feel the more weight I gain I will end up more depressed.

How long after coming off it will the weight shift? I know my metabolism has slowed to a halt - will this return to normal?

Thanks guys :-)

Re: How long after coming off Celexa (Citalopram) will it take to lose weight?

I came off Celexa approximately 2 months ago. I too had weight gain, although mine was about 20-25 pounds during the 3 years I took it.

I am now starting to notice a slow shift in the weight. I weigh myself about 1 time per week at work, and it took until about 1 week ago to see a loss of about 2 pounds. Not much, but it is a start.

If you've only recently stopped the Celexa, I wouldn't be so hard on yourself if you don't see rapid weight loss. As with anything, it will take time. I figure it this way, it took me 3 years to gain the weight now it is going to take a bit to get it off. I'm not saying you're not, but get up & get active. Anything that promotes weight loss or a healthy lifestyle is a great image booster If you have access to a gym that would be a bonus, if not walk, walk and then walk some more. I love walking, it is completely low impact, but it works

Good luck

Angela

Be glad you weren't on Seroquil. That made me blow up from 115lbs to 145 lbs in one month...... I'm glad I questioned the weight gain to my psychiatrist cause when I asked she said oooooohhhh yeah Seroquil will pack on the pounds!! sigh....good luck cause I'm having a hard time losing it too =-/ grrr
