one tiny thing leading to a rage about everything
My mother did this thing where one tiny supposed error on my part would lead her into a rage and she would suddenly start slamming pots around, yelling about things I had done or not done years ago. I wonder if this is a particular symptom of some mental illness??? She has never been diagnosed with anything and has cooled off as she has gotten older, but it was NOT normal.

I don't know that there's a particular mental illness diagnosis for what you describe. It sounds like your mom had some anger management/short fused temper issues though. Without knowing much more about her background and any other traits, I'd say if anything, maybe a personality disorder? Something like borderline personality comes to mind:

Sounds like anger issues to me.

Was she abused at any time in her life? I have anger issues caused by abuse, and I've occasionally lashed out physically like that. I wasn't abused as bad as some people though, so I'm sure others who were abused more than me would tend to lash out more.
