DEPRESSION:The Great Western Disease.

Over the last decade, perhaps two, the prescribing of anti-depressents and, now more recently, medicative sleeping aids/pills, has become worryingly far greater in number within the U.K. And, is certainly on the rise without signs of slowing or reducing. As someone who, from an early age and through the trials of desperation to achieve normality, has been using psychiatric medication, I have begun to wonder for sometime now of the - not so much the immediate side effects of such drugs, but the bigger picture, the side effects we cannot yet fathom for only time can be the indicator of such change; what are these widely used drugs doing to us in regards to our evolutionary process of the brain, and can we control it??
Secondly, why is mental health - particularly depression, insomnia, stress and anxiety, so massively thriving in the western world compared to the East, middle east, far east/third worlds. Is it that because most of these countries have to either put up or shut up due to a stupidly minimal health allowance, or is it because they simply do not suffer from these problems perhaps in the same why as we do? Or do they have the secret to identifying and dealing with these afflictions, again, in a different and more effective way? OR, Is depression, Stress, Anxiety and insomnia typically, a WESTERN-ONLY-DISEASE? If so, why? And how might we take a leaf from their books on Eudaimonia and happiness without popping the first course of pills we're given or prescribed? IS THE WESTERN WORLD DESTINED FOR A LITERAL INSANITY??!!!
