I have not posted here often but have been reading a bit. Seems many folks are just finding out about these little buggers. There was some research done a while back by a Dr. Garth Nicholson (sp?) that seemed to indicate this was the major culprit for our ills. Eventually the VA started an antibiotic trial based on his research. The jist of it was they gave Mycoplasma positive vets either a placibo or Doxycycline for a year or two (cant remember which). The tests were done blind so no one knew who got what (unless you forgot to take it with food like me) untill the the results were in well after the study was complete. In the end the Dox did kill the Mycoplasma, from what I recall, but it had no affect on the symptoms. If you have any questions about this, all the test procedures are around on the net or drop me a line. I was one of the gunea pigs.
See, now I recall that some people DID benefit form the treatment. Dr. Nicholsons daughter came back fromt he Gulf ill and he cured her witht he doxicyclene. Maybe because she got immediate treatment with out long term damage.
Could be. These are the results of the VA study and my own experience. Others may have had diffrenct reactions. The VA study was done much later than Dr. Nicolsons and perhaps time was a factor. From what I understood the deal was to kill the Mycoplasma Fermentens and that was successfull so if it were tied I would expect that those recieving Dox would be feeling better though that did not seem to be the case from the test results.
