I was wondering what the odds are of someone having a miscarriage if they already had two previous miscarriages...

Unless you've had testing done to prove otherwise, your odds are still the same as a woman who has had no miscarriages. Most doctors won't start testing you until you have had 3 + miscarriages though. My ob said about 50 percent of all pregnancies end in miscarriage while most books say it's a one if five chance.

I'd say it depends on the cause of the miscarriages. If they happened because your cervix won't stay shut, for example, you'd need treatment to keep that from happening again. If the cause is a mystery, your chance is probably around 5% like the rest of the population.

There is a syndrome that causes blood to clot and is to blame for causing repeat miscarriages. It's called anti-phosphoidlipoid syndrome (sp?), or APLS. You can read about it as a sticky at the top of the Lupus thread (and no, you don't automatically have lupus if you have APLS!). Do read that in case it sounds familiar and, if it does, tell your OB doctor as soon as the office opens (ask to speak to the nurse).

I recently suffered a miscarriage and my doc said that my chances of having it happen again are the same as everyone elses (50% ) that number is soo high but it is normal sad to say. If your miscarriages were due to chromosonal things (90%) are, then you should be fine and have the same chance as all other women.

Really depends on what is causing them I just suffered from my 2nd miscarriage and my dr didn't mess around he wanted to know what was causing them and stuck me thru all kinds of testing...and here to find out I have something wrong that my body doesn't produce enough folic acid to keep the baby alive...so now I'm on folic acid pills that you can only get if you have a perscription. I have to take them for 3 months before I can even try to conceive again and continue them the whole way thru pregnancy and then maybe I can go off them! So I asked what the chances were to suffer another miscarriage while takin the pills and he said its still possible, but not nearly as high....so I have high hopes! And there is just an example that there might be something wrong and it could be just something little that can be taken care of! I took over the counter folic acid pills while tryin to conceive the last time and they didn't help caz it wasn't a high enough dose to make a difference! Best Wishes!!!
