How Common Are Missed Micarriages

I had problems with my 1st pregnancy so I am really touchy about this one! I am going to be 10 weeks. I haven't had cramps or bleeding and I saw the babies heartbeat during an ultrasound. I am taking progesterone suppositories right now. Anyway I have a million worries running through my mind anyway but I was feeling good that I made it this far and then I heard about missed misscariages. Now that is on my mind! So, I was womdering how common they are? For those of you who have had they, was there any signs or changes in your pregnancy that might have indicated one? What happens to the baby when you have one?

Re: How Common Are Missed Micarriages

I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks. the baby measured 10w. Now when I think back, around 9 1/2w I lost all symptoms suddenly. Then I started to lose weight about 1 lb a day.
Those were my only symptoms.
I had a D&C so I don't know what happened to the baby. Some people wait to miscarry naturally.
Hope this helps.

Re: How Common Are Missed Micarriages

With my missed miscarriages I didn't have much for symptoms from the beginning but the ones I did have disappeared (the first and most noticeable was that my nipples became less tender and my breasts were softer/smaller). Since I was in my second trimester I just assumed I was starting to feel better. I was induced for both and delivered in hospital.

The baby breaks down and is absorbed by the body if the body does not start the miscarriage process. However most women will either miscarry by that time or will be aware that something is wrong and have a D&C after confirmation.

Some women only pass gray pieces of tissue. Some will pass a placenta with no baby; in my case, I delivered both of my babies (they were boys).

Missed miscarriages aren't common. Although when I requested progesterone for my next progesterone my OB "warned" me that my body may continue to carry the baby even if he/she has died because there isn't the natural drop in progesterone that signals the body to begin the miscarriage process.

It's unlikely that you'll have any trouble though . At 10wks your chances of miscarrying are quite low even if you've had a previous loss.

I hope you're able to relax and enjoy every moment with your little one...I know...easier said than done .

When is your next appt? I would imagine they'll listen for the heartbeat soon with the doppler. It's always so reassuring to hear the little thumping .

Let us know how things go.

Kelly

Re: How Common Are Missed Micarriages

hi alleycat,

i've experienced a missed miscarriage last January...it was my 1st pregnancy and it was a shock when i went for my ultrasound and the doc gave me such a bad news.
Just dont think about these bad things and enjoy yr pregnancy.
All will be ok.....just take care of yrself and relax. worrying is not good for you.
I got to know my baby was dead when I was 11 weeks...but the baby had died long before coz it was very very small.
I never heard its heart beat coz the 1st time i went for ultrasound my doc just said all was ok but never tried to hear a heartbeat.
I f he had done that i would have known from 1st ultrasound that all was over not leave it up to 11 weeks.
I never knew this thing could happen and i had no symptoms at all.
My pregnancy kept on going....all working fine....all pregnancy symptoms were there but the baby NO!!

this does not mean it will happen to you....so for your sake stop worrying and eliminate these bad thoughts.

take care and have faith in god!
