Confused

My boyfriend and I found out we were pregnant 2 weeks ago- Had my first apt yesterday, and was told we were 8wks. It took a bit of time for him, but we were both settling in with the idea of #2(#1 is not biologically his-but might as well be). So- I mentioned to the Dr that I had been having cramping in my lower left abdomen as well as Slight spotting- only when I wipe. And not all the time. Went through the whole regular 1st exam. Except no sono.
Well, last night we were 'fooling around' no penetration- and all the sudden it was like a scene from 'Carrie.' I was terrified. it was bright red blood. No clots and the pain was gone.
called the triage nurse and spoke to Dr on call. He said it sounded like a MC. Talked to my Dr today- he said with the bleeding and my blood results (didnt specify) it was a MC.
But I don't get it... I havn't passed anything CLOSE to a clot yet and it has been 24 hrs. I still feel pregnant. My boobs still hurt like heck! And my appetite is still hearty.
He wants to see me next week to check blood levels...But shouldn't I have passed something yet?
I thought it could have been multiples- but if the blood levels are low- that's not right-right?
I am so confused and scared.
We were at the grocery today and I figured I should get pads to 'be ready.' I lost it in the isle. I was sobbing. We were at Target to get out of the house- and I drifted towards the maternity clothing and lost it again. Then I kept going towards the baby section and just crying.
Everything was fine the 1st time.
Any thoughts and comments would be helpful.
Thanks for letting me get at least one brick from this house off my back.

B' Shalom,
Coll

Re: Confused

Hi Jazz

Sorry to hear of your loss.

a person doesnt need to lose clots when they miscarry, it all depends on how far they were at the time. With alot of miscarriages that happen in the first few weeks, the baby hormones and the cells are absorbed back into the body. And the blood you are losing could be the lining of the womb changing now that you are no longer pregnant.

You may still feel sick because it can take sum time for the pregnancy hormones to leave you body completely

I understand completely what you are going through completely and my thoughts are with you

Re: Confused

Hi Jazz,

I'm so sorry to hear this is happening.

It sounds as though your dr just left you hanging. Did he give you any next steps? Like checking you hcg levels? Doing an internal u/s? If not, call him back ASAP & ask about these things. If you only bled that one time, it is very possible that you did not miscarriage. Some women bleed during pregnancy for explained & unexplained reasons. I wouldn't say it's over yet. Call you dr back & ask for some more testing.

I've done a search on the internet for misdiagnosed miscarriages & found some very interesting stories-try it & see what you find.

(((hugs))))

Re: Confused

I'm sorry to hear about that.

If this just happened last night, and if you really are miscarrying, then it might have a bit before you pass any clots or whatnot.
I would have been 5 weeks pregnant on Monday, but Sunday I started bleeding a bit, I just thought it was spotting. But as the day went on, the bleeding got heavier and I started noticing clots.
If you were about 8 weeks along, I believe something can be seen on an ultrasound. If I were you, I'd be heading to my doctor's office ASAP to find out what's up!

Re: Confused

I am so sorry to hear about what you're going through. I would definitely suggest contacting your doctor and having an internal U/S to be sure you've had a miscarriage & that everything has passed. I had a bit of spotting in my 5th week (just when I wiped) and then a day or two where at times there would be bright red blood & then it would stop. I went for an ultrasound at 6 weeks and was told I had not miscarried - there were two heartbeats (I was pregnant with identical twins) and both were viable at the time. Did not have any bleeding or spotting for the next 2 weeks but when I went for an ultrasound at 8 weeks there were no heartbeats & the "fetal demise" was estimated at just over 6 weeks (right after my last ultrasound that showed they were okay and after the bleeding had stopped). I had to have a D&C because even though I had miscarried & had some bleeding 2 weeks earlier, I did not pass them. And I still had pregnancy symptoms that whole 2 weeks after they had died (I had no idea I had miscarried) and for a few days after the D&C.

At 8 weeks they will be able to see something with an internal U/S so you really should have that done so you know for sure what is going on. Good luck!
