Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

Okay, I am now 5 weeks and 6 days along and I have gone through quite a bit here lately. I went to the ER last weekend because I had some spotting and a clot. Well, just yesterday I went to a follow-up appt. where the Doc said that my cervix was closed and everything looked fine, but then the ultrasound was a little different. It was transvaginal and it only showed the sac, nothing more...nothing less. My HcG levels were at 7000 yesterday, but the fact that I couldn't see my baby is really worrying me. The Doc now has me on bed rest and we are taking other extra precautions, but I really want to here from someone who's been in the same boat. Please help and I'll keep u updated.

Re: Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

With my last pregnancy, they were unable to see anything at all in the sac until I was about 8 weeks along. They couldn't get a heartbeat either. Spotting can be normal in a pregnancy and isn't always cause for worry. If you had a molar pregnancy, your numbers would be VERY VERY high. I would see if the doctor is going to do another u/s in a week or two. You might have better results then. Good luck!

Re: Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

Thank you both for replying so soon...Here is some addition information. No, we didn't detect a heartbeat and my HcG levels were 4175 on 5 weeks and 3 days and 6900 on 5 weeks and 5 days. I'm so very scared and they have me scheduled for another HcG count on Friday and another ultrasound next Tuesday.

Re: Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

How concerned were they about your HCG levels?? I, at first, with this pregnancy, freaked b/c I thought my numbers were too low as well, but my doctor wasn't worried. I had 3 prior m/c's and was very scared. So you can imagine I was very upset when they didn't get a HB at 5 or 6 weeks during my u/s. Good luck and my thoughts are with you!

HI HVest32,

try not to worry to hard. Just get a second opinion or another ultrasound soon and make sure they check your uterus with the ultrasound thoroughly - (top to bottom). and check the HCG levels again as well.

keep us posted.
take care.

Re: Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

I think 5 weeks is way too early to detect a heartbeat - the earliest the heartbeat can be detected is 7 weeks. You are so early in your pregnancy you shouldn't have to worry yet - if at 7 weeks they don't see anything then I would worry that it is a blighted ovum. I just had one of those a couple months back and miscarried. The only indication we had that something was wrong before my almost 9 weeks u/s was I had brown spotting at the time my period was due up til 6 weeks - it was only like 1 tiny spot a day. I had no red bleeding until my miscarriage started.

Re: Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

No changes in appetite really. My breasts are really tender, my abdomin has a little pressure but doesn't hurt, and the bleeding is very little (only when I wipe). Everything else is great, if I wasn't on bed rest I'd be exercising as usual.

could you explain what a blighted ovum is...if you can. I don't want you to get into anything you don't feel comfortable talking about.

Re: Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

Is this something that they are telling you is a possibility??? A blighted ovum? To be honest, I don't think you should be worrying so much. I know that's hard not to do, but don't search the internet for possible problems. If your numbers are fine and your only spotting, which is normal, and the u/s, they really have nothing yet. I would calm down and try and take it easy. Did they really put you on bed rest??? For what?? I had 3 m/c's before my last pregnancy. When I went for this u/s they had to have me come back for several weeks b/c they saw NOTHING, only a sac until about 8 weeks. They did an internal u/s as well. I'm shocked this doctor is freaking you out this way. Take a deep breath and don't worry so much just yet! Good luck and my thoughts are with you!

Re: Need some advice- Possible Miscarriage or Molar?

That is exactly what I was thinking. I mean, she really seemed alarmed by not seeing anything...I wasn't worried until I saw her reaction. So, this Tues. will be 6 wks and 6 days & she wants to do another transvag. ultra...it may still be too early, but I hope she sees something so she'll stop worrying me.
