sorry to report that we don't have good news. our twins were born on saturday 7/24 at only 21w6d gestation. i went to the doctor with some cramping on thursday the 22nd, she found i was 4cm dialated with a bulging membrane of baby a's sac. i was immediately admitted to the hospital where it was confirmed through ulrasound. i was put on 100% strict bedrest with an inverted bed, hoping gravity would help put baby a back inside the cervix. the doctors worried about infection of the exposed membrane, so an amneosentesis was preformed on friday the 23rd. i was ordered to stay on strict bedrest until the results came back, if there was an infection, we had to deliver, if there was not, i was due to stay on bedrest and on a series of antibiotics as long as possible. however, the prognosis was not the latter.
the results came back saturday morning that there was a present infection in the membrane of baby a. because baby b shared the lining of the membrane, we were forced to deliver both children so i would not catch the infection and become fatally ill and have to deliver anyway.
i got my exam (5cm dilated) along with an epidural and pitocin at 2:00pm, started pushing at 3:50, and baby a - Blake - was born and passed at 4:08pm. He weighed 14oz and was 14 1/4 inches long. At 4:30, we started pushing again and at 4:45 baby b - Kamryn Olivia - was born. She was 14oz and 11 3/4 inches long. She passed then at 5:52pm.
because they were only 21w6d, there was a 0% survival rate. if we could have made it to 24 weeks it would have increased to a 40% chance (without the infection.) with the infection, it remained in the low teens.
anyway, i just wanted to update everyone, especially the november mommies that i've been chatting with on here. now i move on to another board, start the grieving process, and try to mend the pieces of our broken hearts.
rest in peace blake richard and kamryn olivia (gone but NEVER forgotten.)
