Empty sac? Too early? No blood work?
Just thought I would post to see if anyone else has experienced what I'm going through. My husband & I started trying to have a baby on Christmas day. We know with certainty that pregnancy before ths date is not possible. We took a test after my first missed period & it was positive! We went to the doctor's the following week & they did a routine pelvic exam but no blood work. I didn't think much of it at the time but I just went back a few days ago for my first intravaginal ultrasound.
To our surprise, the doctor sad there was nothing in the sac. I asked, through tears, if maybe it was just too early, but she said the size of the sac, which was 19 mm, was worrisome & that we should see something in the sac by now. According to our timeline, I can't be more than 5.5 weeks at the earliest, but the doctor is going by the missed period in December and saying I'm 7 weeks. I have had no blood work done & I'm wondering if this is normal.
Our hearts are confused & broken and although I go back this week for another u\s & the doctor hasn't "thrown in the towel", I'm not sure what to think or feel. Does the 19 mm size mean no baby? Is there hope that it's just too early. Please help. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Empty sac? Too early? No blood work?
most likely you won't see a fetal pole with ultrasound until about 6 weeks. Bloodwork and a follow-up will give you a better idea of what is going on. Good luck to you.
