Unhappy Mononucleosis

My 13 year old daughter has been ill since the beginning of March. She's gone through two different antibiotics treating a sinus infection (which seems to have gone away), but she still has no energy and no appetite! She doesn't even want to talk on the telephone (a sure sign of illness)!

Anyone have any ideas?

Has she had a blood test for Mono? My daughter had it a while ago and she actually was so ill that she ended up being hospitalized. If your daughter hasn't been tested I would recommend testing her, and if she has and the results were negative, you might want to test her again. I have heard about cases where one day it was negative and a few days later it was positive. My daughter lost a lot of weight and her glands were so swollen that she couldn't swallow even a teaspoon of water, and her oxygen levels were very low.

Another way to check for mono (unscientific) is to look in her throat. I don't know if this is the case always, but my son had white spots that looked very much like strep. But you definitely need to have her checked again by a doctor. With mono, the spleen becomes enlarged which could rupture if she is too active; so you definitely need to know.
