Exclamation Mononucleosis: Is picking at the puss bad?

I've had Mono for roughly a week and a half, now (or at least, that's when it was diagnosed), and I've noticed a long while ago that there were patches of puss covering my tonsils, with some darker stuff around it. I wonder if possibly trying to get it off, or pick at it with a Q-tip might actually make it worse...so will it? Will it be painful? Have any of you ever done it before? If so, what happened? Would you suggest doing it, or just leaving it alone?

I know this sounds completely gross, but it's annoying me. It's like something is pressing against the back of my throat, and it's getting in the way when I eat and talk. Help?

Re: Mononucleosis: Is picking at the puss bad?

Leave your tonsils alone or you'll cause yourself a secondary infection. This will end but everyone is different in how soon so in the meantime in addition to Ibuprofen add a lot of these to your intake ...milkshakes, smoothies, Popsicle, or ice cream...good luck.

Don't pick at it. Gargling with salt water may remove anything that is loose, but leave the rest alone.
