Mononucleosis generally doesn't result in pain. It can be caused by a number of different etiologic agents (both viral and bacterial) but pain is not a primary symptom.

When I had mono, I experienced severe pain when swollowing because my throat was very swollen. I was prescribed a prednisone, which reduced the inflammation (and therefore the pain), but it caused other problems over a period of time.

Good point bethsheba--I was only thinking of bone/joint pain. I guess myalgias and arthralgias can happen with any viral infection, though they tend to be more aches rather than full out pains.
