Mono and sore joints?

I was diagnosed with mono last week but i have been having symptoms for about a month i think. my doctor also told me that I had throat ulcers going down my throat and because of that it has been difficult to eat and my doctor put me on some pain medicine. in the past few days my lower back has been really sore and the outside of my thigh shooting down to my knee and back up around my hip. I also have been getting bad head aches which isnt really abnormal for me but they are alsmost worse than normal and seem even worse along with the lower back pain and hip pain. I have never felt this kind of soreness before and i know its not from pulling a muscle or something because ive pretty much been on bedrest for the last week. I am a competitive cheerleader at my high school and im generally pretty active so my mom thinks the pain is from the lack of activness but i dont know. does anyone have a second opinion? i dont know if its related to the mono or the pain medicine im on but its really not fun. any response is helpful! thanks!

also, sorry for any spelling or grammar errors!

Re: Mono and sore joints?

Mono can cause significant headaches and joint/muscle pain. Given you have mono, I would assume that is what is causing this, and it should clear up when the viral infection resolves. Many people with mono describe their symptoms as coming in "waves" with feeling bad at times interspersed with feeling a little better. This fluctuation seems common with this virus. An antiinfammatory like ibuprofen or naproxen may help the headaches and joint/muscle pains and fever if you have any.
