Question Knee Soreness

Gday All,
Ive successfully negotiated two weeks of REBIF needles as of tonite.
Not a big milestone but a milestone none the less...without too much drama I might add.
One thing that could just be coincidence is that my Right Knee is starting to ache to the extent where it actually hurts to walk.
Has anyone else experienced similar circumstances?

It could be unrelated because I have had a 'gammy' knee for at least 5 years, but Ive never had any pain associated with it.

In fact it was a 'gammy' knee(leg)that started me on my quest that has now led me to "the MS endgame".

I plan to get it xrayed arthriscoped etc but I thought Id ask...

Regards...Gary

Re: Knee Soreness

Hey there... I just finished my 5th shot of Rebif, my first dma treatment after being dx'd. I started at the back of my left arm, the next one on left stomach, then left back hip - it is after this shot my left hip joint ached when I walked - then left thigh, and yesterday right stomach - to which today my left hip doesn't hurt, but my right knee does when I walk. Strange...if you find anything out, post it! I am going to keep a log of what happens when, to see if there may be any correlation - I just got done looking through some sites on the web, and joint pain is one side effect, it seems. Just look up rebif + joint pain on the web and you will get some ideas.

Who knows if the two are related or not, that is what is terrible about MS - so different for different people.

Re: Knee Soreness

Congratulations on the injections! I'm on Avonex and the husband gives them to me. I will learn to do it myself, just not ready yet...

I've had joint pain for several years now, especially in my hips and knees. I figured I had rheumatoid arthritis, although I was in my late teens when it started. During the whole process of getting the MS diagnosis, my doctor ruled arthritis out. He said MS may very well be causing this. But like Kerri said, who knows? MS is a bizarre thing.

By the way, what's a gammy knee?

Re: Knee Soreness

Hi, having been on Rebif for over a year now, cant say that Ive ever had what you describe; however, I have hit a muscle before and have had real soarness for a day or two post injection. Ive also hit a vein, bled like crazy, and Ive hit a few other things which I dont even know what they are- and had more than the usual injection site pain...but guess what? I lived thru all of it!
I would say in the approximately 180 shots over the past 14 months which I have given myself, Ive maybe had 5 of them which hurt more than usual....not a bad record, huh? Life goes on, the pain goes away and you just deal with it..
It is possible that your gammy knee is assocaiated with plain old MS pain, and has nothing to do with the Rebif. I have a few issues which I could have sworn were Rebif related, but believe it or not, they did go away. I actually started feeling GREAT on rebif about 6 months into the shots...that good feeling is mostly still on.

Have you tried taking Aleve, instead of Motrin or Tylenol for pre-shot meds? It really helps most muscle aches and definately helps post-injection flu like symptoms...because you only take 1 pill and it lasts 12 hours, you can sleep thru the night and not have those horrid side effects...it might even help your knee.
Best of the best to you....congrats on your milestone. Thats huge!
Hugs
Nikki
