Hi there. I've got a few questions for anyone who can help. My mom was recently diagnosed with MS. It took her docs years, but they finally nailed it. We've tried going to different websites and all that to look up info on it (especially what to do since she can't work as much as she did) We found out there's a National MS Society chapter in Louisville (KY) Unfortunately, that's about 60 miles away, and to make matters worse, it's the closest available. So until we can manage a trip up there, I need just a few answers. Mom's workplace (well, manager) has been trying to ignore her Doctor's notes. Nothing extremely blatent, like not letting mom take her meds, but little things like not giving her (fairly) regular breaks. Also, her evaluations are going down. As far as I know, she's reported the manager to the actual workplace, but has thus far received no acknowledgement. Oh! She was also told (by manager) that she couldn't park in the handicapped employee parking places, even though she has a tag. Is there any legal recourse? I've told her to keep a journal everyday she works of anything that seems rather shady and to also keep any paperwork they give her. I don't ask for legal advice because of the nit-picky small stuff, but I worry that there may be discrimination involved. Who could/should we contact and what can be done?
2. Because of her inablility to go up and down stairs like she used to, my dad has mentioned building a ramp. I read something somewhere about medical expenses (if they could be backed up by dr. notes or whatever) could be written off in taxes, and in some cases maybe paid for. Is there any truth to this, and how would one go about it? Laundry is getting especially hard for her, so we'd also like to move the washer/dryer upstairs somehow. Obviously, the medical costs have not been pretty and they're rather strapped for cash, so any freebies they could get would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance
