Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for bras??? When I wear a bra, it makes the muscle spasms worse, or even just causes them. So I was wondering if any of you have a tip or trick for wearing them so you don't get spasms?? I have tried bra extenders, but then the straps fall down your shoulders. If you tighten the straps, then they are to small?????

Any ideas are appreciated!!!

Thanks!!!!
Laurie

Hi Laurie,
I don't have that prob,I am a stay at home mom,and half the time I don't wear one,hehe
But I thought of those silicone bra's I seen on TV,they have no straps and the cups hold things in place, lol, might be worth a try?

Question Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Laurie,
Do you think glue-on plastic cups that just attach to breasts could work?
I haven't used those, but I did find the disposable paper sets surprisingly comfortable.
Muscle spasms.. frightening, painful, sometimes life-threatening for me....
I hope you get more ideas to try.
Sincerely,
White Dove

Smile Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hello again with more suggestions:
1. clothing with built-in bra-like support. I've worn summer tops with built-in bras as underwear. (because of a different problem, not spasms)
2. a brand like Hanro with wider straps and a reputation for comfort. Their knits are wonderful--expensive, but worth it.
3. a "bra makeover" by a bra-fitting expert. Women who specialize in fitting bras say most of us wear the wrong size, usually too small. So if you're the typical woman in this regard, your bra is too small. Also, our bodies change but we keep wearing the same size bra, which was probably wrong to begin with. Being familiar with many brands, one hopes an expert could figure out what might work best for your needs.
(On coming back here I was amused to see that Dessell and I were writing the same thing at the same time. I got a kick out of her post.) Could you let us know if you find help? Hope you do.

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi White Dove & Dessell!
Thanks for your help!! I do soooo appreciate it!
Here is my problem: I have a disease called Sarcoidosis.
I was on Steroids for '1' week only, but got them intraveinously (sp??) twice. I had an allergic reaction to the Cat Scan dye. I was blowing up shortly before the Cat Scan, then '2' reactions to the dye. I started out as a 10/12, and now am a 2X. Unbelievable!! The swelling actually 'hurts' my skin, if that is comprehensible?? It hurts to outstretch my arms or legs. Normal moving is so difficult. The thing that bothers me the most is the swelling in my neck and shoulders. When I turn my head or look down I feel as if my airway is being cut off.
Anyway, I don't think I can use the 'glue' type bras because of my skin. I have a Lupus rash and the Sarcoid has affected my skin producing cycsts. I can try that brand you suggested, or even go to my local Leggs, Hanes Bali store here by me. I don't want to invest to much money because I believe over time this swelling will go down on it's own, or at least that is what I am told??
Dessell, if you don't mind me asking? What condition do you have that produces the muscle spasms?? Just wondering and looking for any help on that I can find!!
Thanks to you both!!
Laurie

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Laurie,
I hope the swelling goes down, those steroids will make a person gain.I have spinal ms,which means lesions were found on my c-spine and 3 on the lumbar.I have only recently been getting the spams in the feet and calves, its weird they don't hurt just freaks me out to watch them move on their own.I was due for a brain mri last week and did'nt go,lol,I thought hell the doc already knows it ms ,why shoild I get the old brain looked at.I been holding off medical treatment, other than pain meds, hoping it will ease on its own.I have had back pain for 4 years that just won't go away, thinking it was from Spondylosis which I knew I had,,the last month I have noticed progression,I am gonna try to hold out longer, lol. This board and all the folks on here keep me going.I bet those silicone cup bra's would cause a rash, and I bet alot of sweat too.Do you have Lupus? What is Sarcoid?
Wish you well ,
Dessell

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Dessell,
Your spinal lesions, were they called Hemangiomas? Were any of them accumalations of blood vessels? The reason I am asking is my MRI showed those on my spine. Did you have an MRI that detected the lesions? Now, when we are talking spine, is it the vertebrae or the spinal cord?? I have had back pain now for 13 months and it is just getting worse. I have sclerosis in the sacroiliac joint, and several herniated discs. The neurosurgeon said the pain I am having would not be caused by the discs as they are not bad enough to warrant surgery. I do believe him because in the next sentence he told me he is a surgeon and is in practice to make money. He could do a surgery on me, make his money, but my pain, spasms, and difficulty walking would not be improved at all, so he would not do surgery on me. Kinda of cool!! Honest Dr!! He thought I have Aseptic Necrosis of the hip, but the MRI ruled it out.

Today is Sunday, and this afternoon I have to clean my kitchen, bake a cake, and make dinner. It will wipe me out!! So later today I will write back! Thanks sooooo much!!

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Laurie,
The doc called them lesions or plaques and I have osteophytes (bone spurs)that are on the spinal cord .The bone spurs are growths on the spine. At first the neuor said I was stressed, apparently he did'nt look at my mri!! So I went to another neuro and he seen them right off.,he thought I had cervical myelopathy but after tons of blood work and a provoked essentials ,he dx'd it spinal ms because of other symptoms such as a jaw jerk, nystrogmaus(eye jerk) spelling, lol, face stings. You will find out that most folks on here have had symptoms for years before they are dx'd.I had my first bout in 95',at that time symptoms went away and I blew it off,but the last 4 years thay have stayed and become worse.I can't beleive you doc said you should'nt have pain from your back, that is crazy,I had a herniated disc before, and it hurt!Hope I can answer some questions for you,I just got dx'd over summer,so I am really new at the terms, lol.Wish you well,
Dessell

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Laurie,
I also have bad back spasms and end up tearing the stupid thing off. I find that wearing an older, less restricive bra helps and also a sports bra. Look for the ones with a wide band at the bottom area and get a size larger than you normally would.
Hope this helps.

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Dessell,
Lupus can cause a rash called erthro . . . something! Spelling on that is bad, sorry! It is a skin rash that is referred to a 'butterfly' explanation. It goes across the bridge of your nose and under the eyes, which gives it it's name. It can cause a lot different organ involvement, arthritis, etc. It is an energy zapper, and you are fatigued most of the time. There are other symptoms as well, but I am kind of rusty on them. The Sarcoidosis is an inflammtion in an organ, or many organs of the body. It can cause arthritis in the joints, etc. You can have one organ/symptoms, or many involved. It is a nasty disease that gives you no mercy. No cure, just treating the symptoms. I feel like I have the flu everyday. I have increase by about 4 clothing sizes, as your lymph nodes can become swollen as well. I am very swollen. a lot of people treat it with steroids, but steroids and myself don't get along at alll! In 90% of people, the lungs are involved in Sarcoidosis. Usually it starts as a dry cough, and I have developed a croupy cough. I cannot keep my eyes open anymore. gotta get to bed! Thanks again for ALL your help!]

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Camille,
Thank you! I have to get some and try them out!! I blew up from a 10-12 to a 2X around my neck area. And, as you can imagine, so did my chest. Right now I have to wear a 42DD in order for comfort, which is why I 'want and NEED' to wear a bra!!!!! Otherwise, I hang!!! LOL!! Thanks again!

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Hi Laurie,
Now I feel even worse for you. It's painful just to imagine being swollen around the neck--I know how my own swollen lower body hurts. For me, huge lymphaedema started not quite 10 months ago. My mother who is twice my size had to lend me clothes--she said "Now aren't you glad you have a fat mother!"
It is less now, but far from gone; yet it hurts more than when it was enormous. Manual compression helped, and lymphaedema massage. My doctor figured out salt was making it worse. I didn't realize how much salt I was consuming. Now we don't get prepared foods unless low in salt. Also, he recommended a specialist and more therapy because these things don't necessarily go away on their own. Maybe a specialist and specialized physical therapy could help you, too--Is yours lymphaedema or something else? Hope you feel well enough to have a Happy Holiday...

Re: Need ideas for Bra's that don't provoke muscle spasms??

Thanks White Dove.
Yes, I had to borrow clothes from my Mom too, and she said the same thing your Mom said to you!!!! No, nothing can be done. No specialist or physical therapy. I can't afford them. Physical Therapy is $40 each time, and that is with insurance. Besides, our Cable TV got shut off, I can't even afford the things I have at home. Disability pay really sucks. Yes, salt makes mine worse too. I can tell when I have eaten something with salt, as my lips taste horrid. Don't know why it comes out thru my lips, but it does???? My problem is Sarcoidosis. I explained what Sarcoidosis is in a few posts above this one. Scroll up and you will see it. I guess I am getting out of typing it again!!! Thinking about things, I admit I have sacrificed a lot lately. Oh well, what can you do??? Thanks for writing! I hope you get better quickly from your Lymphaedema! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! And a safe one, too!
