Colds

Are MS patients more susceptable to colds? Do MS patients have a more weakened immune system than others? I am asking because this is my second cold this month and I want to know if it is relevant enough to bring up to my neuro. At least it feels like a cold . Thank you for your responses in advance.

Re: Colds

YES WE DO !!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO GET TO THE DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IN FACT MOST GP HAVE A LIST OF MS PATIENCES AND UPON CALLING YOU WILL TAKE TOP PRIORITY OVER SOME OTHER PATIENCS. WE ARE SUPOSSE TO HAVE BOTH FLU AND PHENOMIA SHOTS ON US. LAST YEAR BEFORE GETTING DIAGNOSED I GOT SICK IN OCTOBER WENT ON ANTIBIOTICS 2 TIME AND HAD DOUBLE PHENOMIA BY JANUARY.
I'M DOING THE SAME THING THIS YEAR AND HAVE A PHENOMIA SHOT ON ME BUT I GOT SICK ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND STARTING THE SECOND ROUND OF ANTIBIOTICS. THIS TIME WITH A NEBULIZER. IT'S HELPING TO KEEP MY LUNGS CLEAR. MORE MS PATIENCE DIE FROM PHNEMONIA THAN ANYTHING ELSE. IT'S THE COMPLICATIONS THAT GET US. HOPE THIS INFO HELP. AND IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE MS GO TO THE DOCTOR AND DON'T WAIT. WE HAVE NO OR REALLY WEAK AMUNITY SYSTEM.

Hi Adriane,
I have to disagree with anseay. I don't think MS in itself makes one more susceptible to colds.
Speaking from personal experience only, I have had only one bad cold since I was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago. I am on Amantadine which is an anti-viral and may explain, at least in part, my lack of colds.
You should bring this up with your neuro, however, as there could be something non-MS related going on.
