Question My Mom might have MS-Help

My name is Erica. My mom is 46 years old. For about 1/2 year now she has had numbness in her fingertips and has complained about severe memory problems. Even I can tell, she forgets stuff so easily. She finally went to the doctor and they found inflammation in her brain. I started looking stuff up on the web and all her symptoms point to MS. Her sister was diagnosed with MS a few years ago. So, I am just writing to find about a little more about this, From people who could have MS or know someone who has MS. How severe are the symptoms and how disabling is it in your life? I am just a concerned daughter. My mom is very active and for her to have this would be devestating for her. I just want to know what to expect. Thanks so much.

Re: My Mom might have MS-Help

you are sort of asking the milion dollar question "what is going to happen with my MS and my life?". what you can expect in the short term is testing which includes MRI of brain and spine, spinal tap, blood work, EVP test. . this can all take a few months to do - just to let you know there are many other things that could be the cause of the symptoms of what your mom is going through. . just tell her to be pushy with teh doctors and get all the possible testing done. . there are some new medications out there that have a substancial impact on the progression of MS - so hope is not lost if that is what it turns out to be.

take care

Dear Erica,
My husband is 48 and was diagnosis with MS five years ago. It changes your life in so many ways. It will be an adjustment for all of you, not just your mom. Hang in there!

i was dx with ms when i was 32 in 1977, there wasnt as much known then as now . it has been a real struggle some good some not so good. you might contact the ms society they have good and updated info . it sounds like you have some of the best therapies needed for coping with ms love, patience, caring, and the need to get the best info you can. a good neorologistcan arrange testing and don't forget second opions are worthwhile. by for now and goodluck the bear
