Re: Ms Hug

I think its when you feel like there's a big ol' bear hug happening and your chest is constricted. But I'm not sure.

Re: Ms Hug

Hi,
It's when you have a squeezing sensation aroung your upper midsection, usually around the diaphragm or even higher around the lungs. It is sometimes called girdling, like an old fashioned bodice girdle has been cinched up too tightly. When the hug happens it can hurt to breath deeply. Like any other MS symptom, there is variation in degree of intensity and exact location.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Julie

Re: Ms Hug

MS Hug is a nickname. My daughter's doctor calls it girdling. Here's a quote from a well know MS organization:

“Paresthesia” refers to any abnormal sensation: *****ling, tingling, pins and needles, “ants crawling on my skin,” or a tight girdling around the torso, nicknamed “the MS hug”.

I've also heard the painful girdling called "Dysesthesia."

Hope this helps.

Julie
