Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on this board and I have soem questions.
Recently I have had some problems with the left side of my face going numb and it dropping quite badly. This started off with a once off and then it went to monthly fortnightliy and now nearly everyday. Some days are better than others. My speech has been getting badly slurred or I stutter over words. Not like me normally. I've been excessivly tired and can relate to that heavyness feeling all too well. I have had limb collapse while I have been walking or lifting things for no apparent reason. I have had increased general weakness in my limbs, tingliung sensation have been in my limbs, balance is right off and most recently I had trouble contoling my hand to right a phone number down with a pen.
There is a history of MS on my mothers side of the family and I have heard this can put you more at risk. I do have Epilepsy and we checked these symptoms out with my specialist and I had another EEG to make sure but it is definately not related as my results were the best they've been in ages. I went and had an MRI which came back normal. My doctor says this rules MS out, however I am not convinced as my mums cousin had a normal MRI the first time and her symptoms started out with the right side of her face dropping and speech going.
Guys what is your opinion of this? Am I reading too much into these things? Should I demand an MRI of my spine, what do you think?
Many thanks Lori

Hi Gaulty,
I asked the doc about Bells and Todds Paralysis and they dismissed it as not the culprit. Thanks for the suggestion though. They did tests for my Thyioride, my medication levels and also for some other syndrome to do with the brain. They ended up being normal. At this stage I have no idea. You say you have MS also. How did it come about when you were diagnosed? Did yours show up on an MRI?

Re: Concerned about possibile symptons...advice plz
Last I heard, it was 5% of MS patients who have normal MRIs. So it is possible. Also, having a history of MS in the family is a strong factor to getting MS. Have you had an evocted potential and a spinal tap? They might help descriminate. In addition to that, what kind of MRI did you get? Did they inject anything into you? Often at the beginning, the lesions are small so unless the machine is very precise, they don't always show up.
Anyway, my suggestion is to find a neurologist that you trust (your current specialist might do the job), and to see him on a regular basis. If you can, try to get MRIs every year or so (I get mine every 6 months, but I'm canadian so I don't have to pay for it).

Radasjewel,
For what it's worth, I've been doing some research on Myasthenia Gravis and stumbled upon this link that claims anti-seizure meds can bring about symptoms of latent MG.
Thought it might be worth your while. Here's the link.
