Hello again, My husband has a appointment on Wednesday with his Nuro, I am seeking advice on med's as he is on Volterol -spelling?- and it dons't seem to be helping the pain at all. He is suffering from cronic back pain, head pain -not like a head ache though- and tingerling in the lower back. His neck and sholders also are playing up. I have done some looking around and seems that a drug called BetaSeron is doing well can any one tell me if he can get this in UK, if not can any one give me a clue on what to ask for on Wednesday what has worked for you ect any help would be great

Better get on baby needs me needs feeding!!!

Aren't any of the other MS drugs available in the UK? The 4 that we have here are Avonex, Betaseron, Copaxone and Rebif. Also, Tysabri is something brand new that just came out.

Yes it is Ms he has we were told in December.

The Drug Volterol doesn't seem to be helping with the discomfort he has most of the time and now he is getting a burning sensation in his left leg like you have just spilt a hot drink down your leg, he even thought our eight week old has leaked out of his nappy

Thank you for the info I really had no idea what was available in the UK, at least we can ask the question on Wednesday and hope we get a good answer on one of them at least.

Thanks again for your help and any other advice would gratefully received we are both very new to this and what with baby coming 22 days after he was told he has MS we really haven't done as much 'Homework' as perhaps we should of I am sure you understand.

Volteron, I believe, is an anti-inflamatory (not 100% of this, but I know it's given to relieve pain). Painkillers don't always work well on MS-related pain, although I don't know why.

There is medication for MS as it's been said earlier. Avonex, Betaseron, Copaxone and Rebif are the current MS medications, taken through injection. The frequency varies with the drug. They work on long term basis, meaning that they won't help your husbands currently symptoms, but they will slow down the progression of the disease. I don't know if Tysabri is available in the UK yet (it's available in the US, but not in Canada), but I suggest you ask about it, since it's apparently very effective and the frequency of the injection is once a month instead of several times a week.
